efi conversion

has anyone here done the swap to a new 5.0 engine w/ the fuel injection? I am currently collecting parts to put together a 5.0 roller block w/ a stock mass air mustang setup. Currently I have an 85 roller block that I am assembling. I have a set of '69 351 heads that are extremely p&p'd with stainless 1.94 16.0's. I have a couple of stock 5.0 intakes/throttle bodies/fuel rails/injectors. I am getting a complete mass air harness for cheap(don't want to buy that $700 harness from mustangs plus). I basically need to know what sensors I have to run and what things I can omit. My 65 doesn't need all that smog crap. I haven't seen anything on here about the swap so I will probably have to go to the 5.0 guys for more info but anything is a help.

Although I haven't done the EFI conversion, I hated to see this one slip onto the 2nd page. There are a few guys in this forum that have done this swap. Hopefully this bump will give them a chance to see it.

Painless has a new harness that looks like it is a bunch better than the others availible. Its about $500 and they cant keep them in stock. I plan on this swap someday for my maverick, I still think ill go with a factory junkyard harness and a wiring diagram and save the $500! Wish i could help out on what senors you need, try www.ford-trucks.com, they had a good efi swap article on there last time i was on there

yeah, that is a really well organized and informative article on doing the conversion. Thankyou for the input. Windsor-Fox has some nice items but too much $$$ for the poor college kid collecting these parts. I have gotten so much stuff for cheap to free that its unbelivable. On saturday I was looking up parts for a guy putting a carbed HO engine into a 67 Fb(I work at Advance Auto parts). He ends up giving me a complete upper intake with TB, injectors, rails, and some sensors. For $30 I am getting a bunch of stuff from a friend, most importantly the mass air harness but also another intake(if i screw up porting one I have 35lbs of aluminum to recycle) Also getting a second set of injectors and another fuel rail. All I have to do now is score a cheap/free mass air sensor and I am set. I think I am going to get a reman computer from work, 75 beans with discount. I wouldn't be comfortable with buying one from ebay, paying the same and not knowing if it works properly.

I am a college kid in the process of swapping.

heres a pic of the 89 5.0 & T5 in my 66FB.







My swap is not completed yet. What I did was buy a totaled 89 5.0 and I am using the motor, tranni, and wiring harness out of it. I purchased a Holley pro-injection fuel pump from Summit (or Jegs, forgot) that is a replacement for when their pumps that come in the kit. I paid $99 bucks I believe for it and should provide way MORE then enough fuel for my SB. I got the larger one that was listed. I then used the stock fuel ends by the motor of the stock fuel lines and then patched them into fresh lines that I ran using brake lines from the local parts house. I used 3/8's and 1/4's lines respectivly I think. (Taking my sweet precious time on project sinces its now 2.25hrs away from me). I purchased a crossmember from windsor-fox for my T5. The origial radiator will probably be reused, because all you have to do is swap the bottom neck to the other side. However, someone has replaced my manual raditor with a automatic one so I might have to buy a new one. The factory 89 fan, I have been told, will line up just fine with the factory 66 shroud which I purchased this summer. I have lots of other various parts being installed too.

I noticed the accesories on the 5.0....

I noticed that you kept the accesories on the 5.0 but do you know if there are adapters for power steering and air conditioning lines? I am in the process of doing the same thing you are and want to keep the power steering. My '89 GT 5.0 motor, computer, MAF and harness was delivered Saturday night at approximately 11:00pm and I was out of control. It has been a long time since I have had the chance to work on a 5.0 (or any vehicle) due to my practice and four kids.

I didn't even own any mustangs until about five weeks ago. I have owned six of them through high school, the military and college. I found both of my '66 coupes within 3 days of each other and wanted both of them. The wife wasn't to happy but I bought them anyway. The kids think they are the greatest "toys" ever. My sons and several of the kids in the neighborhood sit in the cars and act like they are racing them. When I told my wife to come look at the kids playing (I thought it was funny), she told me that I could have found some cheaper toys for them to play with.

Let me know of any pitfalls that you have encountered while installing the 5.0 into your mustang!

I am also planning on doing this conversion in my 66 coupe.
I just finished the Granada front disc conversion.
I have the efi Rollor Motor out of a 93.
All I gotta figure out is the wiring.
Honestly $500 to $1000 for a "complete" wiring harness is completely bogus....
Any help on the wriring diagrams from the new engine to the old car would be awesome.

I´ve done an EFI conversion on my old 289. Works very good, get lots of attention in this part of the world and the best thing I could have done I think, the car is way much nicer to drive now.

All the major parts I used was donated to me from Steve Ainsworth aka ultrastang and without his help it would have been impossible as there´s almost no donor cars available here in Sweden, thanks again Steve!

I used a ´92LX wiring harness and thanks to the "Multiport EFI Engine Management Harness, Wiring Harness Installation Manual" from Ford Motorsport SVO (part# ISM-12071-C302) and the ´92 Mustang wiring diagram I was able to figure out the wiring.

I´ve deleted all of the emissions stuff, except for the TAB, TAD and EGR solenoids that I´ve hidden behind the dashboard and the vacuum is not connected to them. I´m not sure but I´ve read someplace that they are needed for the computer to run "closed loop".

Due to the insufficiencies of the search feature, namely the 5 character minimum requirement, there are many useful swap threads that are difficult to dig up.

Because of this, any useful swap threads I find (EFI, T-5, AOD, Granada disc brakes, etc...) I will add a new post containing the word " swapper ".

I have to find a place that has the lincoln mark VII rear end so I can do the rear end conversion.
I did the granada front end conversion..
Next is the engine swap and then the rear end.
