IREV - Irrlicht Evolved

The IREV engine is short for Irrlicht Evolved, a 3d Game Engine SDK built on top of the Irrlicht Engine V. 0.7.1. It adds certain features on top of the Irrlicht Engine while minimizing the code changes. It shall serve as the test bed and precursor to the Doppelganger Game Engine Project.

IREV - Irrlicht Evolved

The IREV engine is short for Irrlicht Evolved, a 3d Game Engine SDK built on top of the Irrlicht Engine V. 0.7.1. It adds certain features on top of the Irrlicht Engine while minimizing the code changes. It shall serve as the test bed and precursor to the Doppelganger Game Engine Project.

Main Features the IREV engine strives to add are :

  • Multiple Mesh Format support
  • Audio Capabilities
  • Cleaner Reference Counting
  • Flexible Material / Shader System
  • Per Pixel Lighting For Consumer class hardware (without shaders)
  • A Core model and mesh format
  • Extended Support for formats via converters
  • Enhancement and Performance Optimizations for existing Irrlicht Functionality
  • The main goal is to work with minimum code change / refactoring of the Irrlicht Codebase to create and maintain this engine.

    The lessons learnt here shall be applied to the Doppelganger Game Engine Project which shall create a brand new next generation 3D Game Engine.
