Today's Tails

This page is dedicated to all the wonderful four-legged, two-legged, no-legged, furred, feathered, or finned friends, with or without tails, who listen to us without judging us, who are there for us at the end of a long day, and who offer us unconditional love.

Below are photos of the pets we now have. Unfortunately, we now have only two furry pets. They've stood by us "Faithfully" for many years, and I hope they'll be around for a long time to come.

Cat Tails

Blacky

This is Blacky, my oldest son's cat. He was born in late summer of 1992, and given to us when he was no more than 6 or 8 weeks old. Our neighbor found him in the warehouse where she worked, but they already had 3 cats. However, they knew we couldn't turn him away. He's been a constant source of joy, entertainment, and aggravation. He can be a real troublemaker, and he loved chasing the other cats, especially when he was bored. He has no one to chase right now, and he is lonely. Anything is a toy to him, rocks, pencils, paper, even a potato. But he's a real baby when it comes to being held and petted, and loves nothing more than to curl up on someone's chest and knead and suck our shirts.

Dog Tails

Buddy

This is Buddy. He was born in the spring of 1990, and one of our neighbors where we lived at the time got him when he was about 6 weeks old. However, they never really took very good care of him, or paid him much attention, letting him run all over. Then they said he was biting their little boy, although I know the little boy teased him a lot. To make a long story short, they were going to shoot him, which I just couldn't understand. He was in our yard most of the time anyway, and I really grew to love him, so I just about had to beg them to give them to us. They were afraid he'd go over there all the time. Finally they agreed, and he's been with us since the fall of 1990. He's a true mutt, part labrador, part german shepherd, and part springer spaniel. He's our guard dog. He doesn't like strangers, and barks at anything and everything. But he's a big baby with the family.

Aquarium Tails

The pictures below show the type of catfish we now have. We had one of each kind for many years before they finally died, and we've recently gotten two more of the same kinds.
I scanned them from a book on tropical fish.
I couldn't get our catfish to pose for a picture.

Peppered Catfish

Squat is a peppered catfish. He's my oldest son's, and I have no idea why he named him Squat. He had the previous one, Rain Cloud, from 1995 til 2001.

Saddleback Catfish

Jumpy is my youngest son's. We got his first saddleback catfish in February of 2000. My oldest son wanted to get a fish for his little brother. We never did name that one, except for some unintelligible sound Stephen made at one-year-old. Unfortunately, that catfish died in June of 2001. Hopefully, Jumpy will live longer.

Firebelly Newt

We actually have two of these guys, but this is the only one who would come out of hiding. We've had them both for over 5 years, they made the move to our current location with us at the end of 1995. One of them, I don't know which one anymore, I like to call "Super Newt". Not long after we moved here, he disappeared. I figured he crawled out through one of the openings in the tank hood (it happened before) and became lunch for a cat. About two weeks later, I was in our basement doing laundry when I noticed something moving by the cat litter pans. Thinking it was a mouse or a really huge spider, I cautiously made my way over, only to find our wayward newt. He was covered in dust, and pretty dry, but alive. I brushed him off as best I could, put him back in the tank, and he's still going strong.

We also have some other fish: 2 white clouds, 4 rosey barbs, and 1 silver hatchetfish. The white clouds and the silver hatchetfish are all almost 3 years old.

A kitten's work
Is never done.
There's air to chase--
Ten ways to run.

It takes all day
To fill my eyes
With sunny grass
And butterflies.
