Tracy Smothers and Balls Mahoney (Boo Bradley) will come to FMW from March 27 to April 11. Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy will come to the new JPWA's opening show at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on April 14. "Gangster" Mustafa Saed will appear in Big Japan Pro Wrestling's "World Extreme Cup" Death Match Tournament from April 24 to May 14. Bobby Blaze will come to Michinoku Pro Wrestling in May. George Hines (Jackie Fulton) is one of the regular gaijin (foreign) wrestlers for All Japan Pro Wrestling. Bionic J (Jessica Soto), who was trained by Al Snow, is wrestling for ARSION. As if by magic, they all remind me of their good old home in the American South.

Jim Cornette, Sandy Scott, and Tim Horner opened up Smoky Mountain Wrestling when they had the first two-hour pilot TV taping at Greenville Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina on October 30, 1991. SMW was run by Cornette until he announced that it was closing down operations after a show in Cookeville, Tennessee on November 26, 1995. Finally, Cornette's dream, the return of territorial promotions in wrestling, didn't come true, but a lot of the great moments and memories of SMW will be always in our minds. This week's View From The Rising Sun (No. 68) will be a tribute to SMW, one of the greatest promotions in wrestling history. You will find that a lot of future stars had passed through SMW.

"A lot of people have a lot of money, a lot of people know how to do it, but there's a sad few combinations of the two to put something together. When you think about it, ten years ago there was a live wrestling card in almost every town in the course of a month in this country, some of them weekly, some of them bi-weekly. There were hundreds and hundreds of wrestling cards, and people were going and paying money to see them, and they were drawing larger wrestling crowds than they are now." (Jim Cornette---January, 1992)
