created his first cachet for the 3c Army commemorative stamp issued on
February 18, 1937. The cachet's text is reproduced below:

CRUSADE AGAINST CANCER Scientists are constantly searching for new ways to treat and prevent cancer. Improvements in surgery and radiation therapy have led to the successful treatment of many persons. Chemical agents and antibiotics that will injure cancer cells without damaging normal tissue are being sought. Universities, private institutions, and the National Cancer Institute carry on cancer research. Much of this work is financed and sponsored by the American Cancer Society and agencies of the federal government. EARLY DIAGNOSIS SAVES LIVES
