About Sluckaja Brama

Sluckaja Brama (the Sluck Gate) is one of the most famous monuments of Belarusian architecture. It was built by Mikalaj Krystof "Little Orphan" Radzivil, the Prince of Niasviz, in the late 16th century as a part of Niasviz city fortifications on the road to Sluck (hence the name). In 1760 it was rebuilt in baroque style.

Sluckaja Brama became a really symbolic phenomenon of Belarusian history and culture. As a powerful fortified gate it repulsed numerous foreign invasions. During the Muscovite invasion in 1654 - 1667 Niasviz was one of very few Belarusian cities and towns not captured by invading armies. That was achieved not in the last turn due to the city fortifications. On the other hand, Sluckaja Brama was the friendly gateway to Niasviz for welcome visitors. It opened the way to the city, which was a large center of Belarusian culture, where the Radzivils did their best to preserve the most valuable historic and cultural treasures, including the archive of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. This dual combination of the irresisitable might against the foes and cordial hospitability to the friends embodied eternal Belarusian spirit and became a source of aspiration for many a Belarusian artist. For instance, Sluckaja Brama has been glorified recently once again in the song of the same name by a Belarusian rock band 'Krama'.

In our case Sluckaja Brama symbolizes a friendly gateway to Belarusian Internet, which is intended to help you make your surfing more pleasant and efficient and find interesting information on Belarus.
