The Above link gives a full list of programs on startup.Many problems that cause lockups and windows to slow down can be found by analysing the Bootlog.txt.I use a clean boot system e.g I only have explorer/systray and my scroll mouse driver in the Ctrl Alt Delete list after I boot up and my boot time is 30 seconds and to speed up my access I use the tips on here Tips

Note:The best way to stop programs loading into the systray if possible is to use the program's own options if it has one to stop it loading.

Win98 users!!Start Icon/Run and type msconfig and press ok and use the Startup Tab

Win95user Can use Regcleaner.exe off my Free Programs Page

Tip:To fully remove the Task Schedular you must also remove the Windows Critical update.

Windows only needs Explorer and Systray in the Ctrl Alt Delete list to run,everything else can be stopped whilst you track down a problem.

There is an excellent freeware program called"BLA" (Boot Log Analyser)Bla Use this program but veiw the,"Dekays" as they will give you clues.Empty your bootlog.txt on your Root drive(where your Msdos.sys file is) and then re-boot and either press the F2 key as it boots or the F8 key and choose logged bootup to make a new fresh one and the run BLA.This will show delays and you can go from there. This shows where some programs load from on bootup that may not show in the Ctrl Alt Delete and may be running in the background and not show in the systray.

If you have a Network Card installed make sure it is set"Specify an IP address. Give it a number like 192.168.0.1 Make sure you do NOT change the IP address for your dial-up connection.I can't take credit for this one and I don't know the original poster to thank*> Click here for more info Network Card Slow Booting

Places things start from.

1-Items in the startup folder(delete/rename or move the shortcut)

2-from within the program itself/settings/preferences (change to no load at bootup)

3-items in config.sys and autoexec.bat(rem out or delete)

All things below this line are dangerous without experience WARNING:If you have a pre-win95b version of windows then download the updated version of Regedit(around 103/104k)as the old one was useless and dangerous.Also backup your registry with the free WRP program from my other pages.
