Episode 10:
Slideshow
Down in the crypt Quito looks
around. He then goes upstairs to the Great Hall than outside. Walking to the
boathouse Quito climbs into the boat, he heads away from Maljardin. Back on the Mainland Holly talks
to Reverend Dawson. "If you flew down here to play the good padre to show me the
error of my ways. You can rev up your wings and fly right back again." As Holly turns away Reverend Dawson
tries to stand in front of her. She again turns away. "Holly, I came all this distance to talk
to you. I think you owe me the courtesy of listening,” the Reverend tells
her. "Talk to my mother, you and
her make a great team." "Your
mother says I am on your team. She's right." Holly turns her head towards him. "I'm
not buying padre because your no bargain either." Holly rushes away. "Holly wait!" "Get lost,” she tells him rushing past
Tim. The Reverend tries chasing
Holly. Tim blocks his path.
"Please, let me pass."
"You heard the lady, get lost." Tim tells him. Again Tim blocks him from
leaving. "I'm a friend of
hers." "That's not the way I
saw it. There is only one way, to get by me. Care to try?" Tim asks the
Reverend. "I am not a man of
violence,” the Reverend says while backing away. "Frankly neither am I." Tim says with a
smile. "I was sure of that,” he
tells Tim as they walk away from the door into the cafe. "Suppose I tried to
shove you aside?" "You look in
pretty good condition. I'm glad you didn't. You say you’re a friend of Holly’s?"
Tim asks. "Trying to be." the
Reverend answers. "Hey, you
wouldn't have anything to do with her mother?" "As little as possible." "She doesn't seem to have much of a fan
club!" Tim says. "Holly hates her."
"I attempt to be more charitable,” the Reverend says with a smile. "What are you, a lawyer or
something?" "Or something." the
Reverend says. "Reverend Dawson?
They told me at the desk your room is ready." Vangie says as she walks up to the
two men. "Thank you Miss Abbott.
And you for helping me pass the time." he tells Tim, then walks away. Tim looks at Vangie and stares after the
Reverend. Vangie feels Tim's
forehead. "You either have high blood pressure, had too much sun or your
embarrassed. Which?" "I almost
slugged him. How did I know he was a minister? How did you? ES.P." Tim demands
to know. "I get all kinds of
vibrations,” she laughs. "But he told me. Tim?" "Yea." "Tell me all you know of Saturdays
child." "Holly?" Tim asks. "She was the cause of it wasn't
she? "I thought he was trying to
make a pass at her." "What's she
running away from? Did she tell you?" Vangie asks. "Her mother, she says. Didn't your tarot
cards tell you?" "They keep
threatening of a disaster; I wish I knew why? Tim, advise her to accept the
ministers help and go back to where she belongs." Holly is standing in the doorway looking
around. Tim and Vangie see her.
"Here is your chance." Vangie tells Tim then walks away. Tim walks over to Holly "What was that
scene?" "Is he gone?" Holly
asks. "Who? Reverend Dawson?" "No Christopher Columbus. Of course
Reverend Dawson. "I hate to admit
it, but for a minister he seems to be a regular guy to me." Tim tells her. "Wait. You don't know him as well as I
do." "He really must have something
going for him if he bugs you that much."
Holly gives him an angry look and walks away. Tim follows her. "Holly what is it with
you and the minister?" "The good
Reverend Dawson and my mother locked me up in Wesley House. I decided to
leave." "Some jail." Tim says. "Okay maybe it wasn't that strict, but
there was always a bed check."
"Because of that you split?" Tim asks with a laugh. "Yes, because of that and my mother.
Matt Dawson and me. Tim, I want to do my own thing, be my own person. Oh you
wouldn't understand." Holly tells him, she gets upset and walks away. Tim follows her. "You are always right
and they are always wrong. Isn't that what you're saying?" "Yea, you got it figured. Holly tells
him. "No but you do, your tally
sheet is a little off." "Now you're
correcting me." Holly says. "I'm a
little older Holly." "Oh like one
of the nine old men. Where's your black robe judge?" Holly asks. "Look Holly!" Tim says as he grabs her
arm to turn her towards him. "You have a few months to go until you are
twenty-one. Then you will be independently wealthy." "I'm talking happiness, your talking
money!" Holly yells at him. "Why
make waves? Just play their games and you'll get your happiness." Tim argues
with her. "I said nine old men. Now
you’re trying to be the three wise men, but your stupid! Holly again walks away
from Tim. Following her. "Yea, you
have the brain market cornered."
"Oh no, just enough brains to know what I need. What I want and what I
don't want. My mother and Matt Dawson head the list." "What about me? How do I rate on that
list?" Tim asks. "No comment."
Holly says quietly. "But you could ask me about Vangie. I think she is the
most." "Yea, Vangie is something
very special and in a very strange way." "You make it sound like a mystery
novel." Holly tells him. "It's like
a mystery, Vangie has a sense of vibrations. More than you can imagine. She
knows the answer long before you ask the questions." Tim tells her." "Like for instance?" Holly asks. "Holly, Vangie believes you are in
danger here." "What?" "She's making me believe it too. You
should return home." Tim tells her.
"I'm in danger there!" Holly says as she turns away. "This is a more serious kind." "It's lucky I'm not superstitious."
Holly tells him as she turns back toward Tim. "I didn't think I was either." Looking
up he sees Jean Paul and Quito standing in the doorway. "I wish I could go with you." Holly
tells Tim. "I'd like that
Holly." "It could solve all my
problems." "Oh excuse me." Tim says
sadly as he turns away. "Tim, when
will you be back?" Holly asks.
"When I finish Mrs. Desmond's portrait. Maybe not even after that. Every
guy dreams of running away to a place he can escape from the world. I just may
stay there forever." "You dream of
escape but for me its reality." Holly tells him. They look back at Jean Paul. "Have a nice trip." Holly says as she
walks away. "See you." Tim tells
her. "Yea, maybe you will." Holly says as she pushes past Jean Paul. Jean Paul looks at her then looks at
Tim. Walking up to Tim, Jean Paul asks. "All ready?" "Sure thing Mr. Desmond. I'll just get
my things." Tim says as he picks up his cases. "All your additional art supplies are
outside. Quito has to carry them to the boat so I suggest that you check them
out first." Tim heads outside. Jean
Paul walks up to the bar. As he pours himself a glass of water, Vangie comes up
to him. "No one there to help you
Mr. Desmond?" "It's no need Vangie,
I'm just getting a little water."
Vangie sees Jean Paul taking pills and questions him on it. "I've been under some pressure,” he
tells her. "That's understandable
after what you have been through. " She says as she helps herself to a glass of
water. "You know I used to read your cards, now I'm afraid to." "Vangie your taking your heredity a
little too seriously don't you think?" Jean Paul says with a laugh. "I can't escape it any more than the
conjure man (Vangie's father)."
"Tell me, how is he?" Jean Paul asks. "Oh he is getting very old, very frail
but he insists on living alone."
"No man should ever live alone. At least he has a God to believe in."
Jean Paul says seriously, and then he looks up at Vangie and with a shake of his
head he smiles. "Well it's time to cast away, my crew has just come aboard." He
walks away from Vangie. "Everything
is set Mr. Desmond." Tim says. Jean
Paul turns back to Vangie. "Would you please give my warmest regards to the
conjure man and tell him I miss our sessions very much. He taught me a lot of
the beyond and perhaps especially now I should renew..." On Jean Paul's hand
appears Jacques ring. His hand starts shaking and he raises it up. "You were saying?" Vangie asks. "Oh just a vagrant thought." He touches
Vangie's chin. Jean Paul is grinning. He walks away from Vangie. (Jacques has
taken over Jean Paul’s body) "Well
all set for paradise? He asks Tim with a laugh. Tim looks at Jean Paul with a
frown. "Well, lets hurry we have a
job ahead of us if you are to convince Madame Desmond to sit for her portrait."
Jacques walks away. Vangie comes up to Tim,
"What happened to him all of a sudden?" Tim asks. "That's exactly what I was going to
ask." Vangie says. "A quick change
artist." Tim replies with a disturbed look on his face. Jean Paul enters the cafe. "Mr. Stanton
we are loosing light. We can't expect you to swim that dangerous channel. Come,
come." he says loudly signaling Tim with a raised arm. Again he walks out the
door. "You better go Tim." Vangie
tells him. "Yea. Thank you for
everything Vangie, you really saved my life." he gives her a hug before
leaving. "Oh I wonder." Vangie says
to herself looking upset.
Back
on Maljardin Quito is unloading supplies from the boat. He helps Jean Paul off
the boat. "It looks like the wind
is coming up again Quito. I think you better take the rest of the supplies up,
then come down and secure the boat. Tim, I'll lend you a hand." Jean Paul is
once again himself. "No thank you
sir. I'm all right." Tim tells him as he climbs out of the boat. "Well it's a long steep climb to the
house, come along." "Lead the way."
Tim carries his cases following Jean Paul.
Back in the boathouse Holly stands up and climbs off the boat. She takes
a look outside then turns around to collect her luggage from the boat. As she
turns around Quito is standing in front of her. Holly cries out backing away.
She then tries to run away and falls. Quito grabs her wrist and pulls her up.
Holly is crying out trying to pull away from him. Quito grabs both of her wrists
and slowly shakes his head no. Holly stops struggling. Quito lets her go, he
picks up her luggage and signals her to follow him. Tim is looking at the portraits on the
staircase. "These is magnificent, everyone of them are." "But the one you are going to
paint will be the most beautiful of all."
Back on the Mainland Vangie is turning over the tarot cards
when Reverend Matt Dawson comes up to her table. He recognizes the cards. "You know the tarot?' Vangie asks. "I have a second hand knowledge of it. A
minister should have an interest in all spiritual phenomenon." "I thought you might disapprove." Vangie
tells him. The tarot is the souls
way to God,” he tells her. "Any path that leads to God should have a ministers
approval. May I sit for a moment?"
"Yes, of course." Vangie answers. She orders a drink and the Reverend
declines. Picking up the center
card. "Now tell me the mystery of the fool,” the Reverend says looking at the
card. "What does he mean at the moment?" he hands the card to Vangie. "I don't know, it takes two to read the
fortune. The questioner and the diviner. Do you want to sit in the questioner's
seat?" Vangie asks him. "Yes, but
not to have my fortune read. To learn more about Holly Marshal." "What would I know?" Vangie asks. "Is she still around here?" "No." "Look I'm not here to interfere with
Holly's life but to help her live it. I want to talk to her. Do you know where
she is?" The Reverend asks. "I want
to talk to her too Reverend Dawson, only I can't. She checked out and is
gone." "Do you know where?" Vangie takes a sip of her
drink. The Reverend asks her again.
"Well do you?" "Three planes flew
out this afternoon, a hundred boats for hire and almost as many Islands to sneak
away to. I don't know where. But I'll find out. For reasons of my own I am
almost as concerned about her as you are."
Back
at Maljardin Tim walks up to Jean Paul. "I'm really worried Mr. Desmond. I just
don't know if I'm good enough to match these portraits." "Take my word for it Tim, you’re the
only man for the job." The front
door swings open, Quito and Holly enter. Jean Paul and Tim looked shocked. "Quito, who is this girl? Where did she
come from?" Jean Paul asks. "Maybe
I can explain. My name is Holly Marshal, Mr. Desmond. I stowed away on your
boat. I know I shouldn't have but I did. I am kind of on the run, but not from
the police. From a world that bugged me too much. I thought you would be the one
man in the word who could possibly understand." Jean Paul looks at Quito. "Show Miss
Marshal to one of our guest rooms."
"How can I ever thank you?" she asks Jean Paul. "Don't worry about it, we will talk
about it tomorrow." "Thank you
anyway for now." Holly tells him then she follows Quito upstairs. Jean Paul and Tim watch her go up the
stairs. Jean Paul turns to Tim. "It's obvious you know the young lady." he says
as he walks and stands in front of Tim.
"Not really sir." "Well let
me put it this way. You would like to know the young lady better." he says with
a smile. Tim turns away and walks
across the room. He stops in front of Jacques portrait. Pointing at it he says.
"This man could be your twin sir."
"Yes, people have told me of the resemblance." Walking toward Tim Jean
Paul tells him. " Now we'll call you for dinner, so I won't detain you any
longer if you would like to go upstairs. Quito will show you to your room." "Thank you." Tim says as he starts up
the staircase. He stops and looks at Jean Paul, Jean Paul is watching him. After Tim is gone Jean Paul sits down
and lays his head back with his eyes closed. Jean Paul is rubbing his temple
when Jacques speaks. "Tired. Aw
it's been a very trying day." "No
please, not tonight." Jean Paul pleads.
"Now why do I have to watch you every minute? Bring us no more guests. We
have enough to resolve our...destiny and theirs."
