Mata Amritanandamayi
Mata Amritanandamayi is affectionately known as "Ammachi" (Beloved Mother),
and is recognized the world over as "The Hugging Saint." She offers
comfort to millions through her compassionate presence, hugs, and her
humanitarian and spiritual organizations. She has addressed the United
Nations as an esteemed religious leader.
Amma gained Self-Realization at a young age, and exhibited love and spiritual
knowledge beyond most people's comprehension. Her knowledge springs from the
great heart of Mother Divine, rather than
from traditional sources. She teaches the value of selfless service as an
expression of divine love. The original teaching center that was founded for
her has grown into an international organization encompassing charitable
social, medical, legal, education, and spiritual programs for all, especially
the less fortunate.
Ammachi says, "Compassion to the poor is our duty towards God. Children,
expand your heart and embrace all by doing selfless activities. What is more
important than to use this precious time to make this brief sojourn a journey
of love."
She has been traveling around the world since 1987 giving a living experience
