Penny Ramsey Chat Transcript

SURVIVOR Host: There are lots of great questions, so let's get to as many as we can! If you're just joining us, we're chatting live with Survivor Penny Ramsey. Hi Penny! Thanks for spending some time to chat with us today. Are you ready for some questions?

Survivor Penny: I'm ready!

Visitor: Did you know at the time that you were being voted off? What's up with Jake's comments at Tribal Council?

Survivor Penny: Any time you go to Tribal Council you're never safe from being voted out while you're there. I think it's always in the back of your mind that you could be the next to go. The comments that you heard Jake make was Jake trying to save himself another three days on the island as well. When we were at Tribal Council previously, Chuay Gahn was saying that they vote out the people that aren't contributing around the camp. In Jake's mind, all the original Sook Jai members contributed around camp. And so, are they voting with tribal lines or are they truly voting out the people who aren't contributing? There's a few people on Chuay Gahn that do not contribute as much as everybody else.

Visitor: Jake never turned on you. Why did you turn on him?

Survivor Penny: I turned on Jake mainly because of the conversation I had with Clay. Clay had told me that in order to secure myself another three days on the island, I needed to vote out Jake, and that was about my last hope at that point.

Visitor: Hi Penny, Is it weird watching the show after you're back, with all the edits & commentaries added? Do you feel your actions were accurately depicted through all the editing?

Survivor Penny: I feel that for the majority of the episodes I've been depicted accurately. However, I do feel that in the last episode she was in, Shii Ann made a lot of accusations about me that were never backed up with footage of the show. It was hard for me to sit and watch someone basically bashing my character. Those were false statements that Shii Ann was making about me. I believe in her chat with y'all she stated I worked harder, I played smarter and I was her biggest threat, but instead of saying that to the camera, she wanted to call me manipulative and conniving, and I think those are two different things.

Visitor: Penny, you had a big grin when Shii Ann was voted off. Did you dislike her that much?

Survivor Penny: I never disliked Shii Ann as much as other people did until she pulled what she did at the Chuay Gahn camp. She had me so worried about being the next person voted off the island that I couldn't have been more ecstatic when Jeff said that tribes hadn't merged! I truly feel she got what she deserved.

Visitor: Hi Penny, I'm from Honduras, You were great. What does your husband think about your participation in SURVIVOR: THAILAND?

Survivor Penny: My husband Matt couldn't be happier for me. Without his support I could not have had this experience.

Visitor: Penny, how do you like being married? Any children in the future?

Survivor Penny: [laughs] I think marriage is wonderful so far. It's been almost three months and we definitely want to have children in our future, but we want to have a little fun by ourselves first.

Visitor: Do you think Helen is playing the game well? She seems to be one step ahead of the guys who think she is wrapped around their finger.

Survivor Penny: I think Helen is playing the game well. Last night, when we saw Helen and Jake go off to get water for the camp, I knew Jake was having a conversation with her about getting rid of one of the guys on Chuay Gahn. I think that was one of the last things he and I were holding out for. He really thought he made some headway with her. But as soon as Brian and Clay returned from their elephant trek, I saw Helen immediately run up to Clay and Brian right in front of me and say "Guys, I've got to talk to y'all about what Jake's been talking about y'all while you've been gone," so I knew the plan had backfired. That's when I knew I had to separate myself from Jake.

Visitor: Penny, if you had won the Reward Challenge in last night's episode, who would you have chosen to go with you at that point in the game?

Survivor Penny: That's a good question! I actually did think about that while I was out there. I think I would have chosen Helen for the mere fact that she and I had done a lot of talking about food and recipes and this was going to be an opportunity to actually have a good meal.

Visitor: Do you think merging the tribe this late is unfair?

Survivor Penny: I don't think merging the tribes was unfair, especially since I feel strongly that I would have been the one to be voted out the episode Shii Ann had gone, so of course I liked the outcome of the game. I think there are so many twists and turns that you have to make the game unpredictable, or else you make a decision like Shii Ann's which cost her another three days.

Visitor: Doesn't everyone else see that Clay and Brian are in control of the whole group?

Survivor Penny: From the beginning when Sook Jai was sitting at Chuay Gahn's camp and we were competing as two separate tribes, to us (outsiders looking in) it did seem that Brian and Clay and Helen were running the show. But as you can see from last night's episode, Ted and Jan were the ones to come after me immediately in the Immunity Challenge, and you saw that they were initially planning to vote Jake. You saw Ted talking to Helen and Brian, asking them if they were sure about voting Jake out. Brian said "We can switch the vote later." To me it looked like possibly Ted and Jan are in control. I think there are a lot of different leaders out there.

Visitor: Of all the experiences on the island, what will you remember the most?

Survivor Penny: I think what I'll remember the most was when Jeff Probst said there was no merge and the look on Shii Ann's face--absolutely!

Visitor: Penny, what was your favorite activity to pass the time while in the game?

Survivor Penny: Oh goodness! With Sook Jai, we played a food game. We would think of something like Snickers or Twix, and you'd have to pick one, and someone else would say pancakes or waffles and someone else would go Oreos or chocolate chips? So, the food game helped us pass time.

Visitor: Penny, did you like your original tribe, or did you wish you were on the other team? When you were given the option to switch tribes, do you wish you had?

Survivor Penny: I liked the team that I was chosen to be on and I never wished I were on the other team. The thought never crossed my mind to switch teams.

Visitor: What did you think of the situation between Ted and Ghandia?

Survivor Penny: I wasn't at their camp when that was going on, so it's hard for me to have an opinion about the two of them in that situation. Obviously I don't agree with it, but I wasn't there to be able to side with either one of them.

Visitor: What was your most and least favorite Challenge?

Survivor Penny: My favorite Challenge was when we were launching the balls and won the Thai feast. My least favorite was the underwater snorkel Challenge.

Visitor: Penny, you were great! Can you tell me why Helen sat out the snorkel Challenge?

Survivor Penny: I don't think that Helen chose to sit out of the Challenge; I think that her teammates nominated her to sit out.

Visitor: Who was a bigger pain in the butt, Shii Ann or Magilla?

Survivor Penny: [laughs] Magilla was never a pain in the butt, so there's your answer!

Visitor: Was stealing a banana that big a deal?

Survivor Penny: I didn't think the bananas were that big a deal. I think that Ken and Rob made it a bigger deal than it really was.

Visitor: Hey Penny, how difficult was it to be constantly hungry, especially being one of the smallest members of the tribe? What was your reaction to Clay's whining about food?

Survivor Penny: I think after being out there the first ten or twelve days you finally get used to being starved. But you know that this game only goes 39 days, so in the end you know you're going to be eating just like you used to. I never actually heard Clay whining about food; if I did, I don't remember it.

Visitor: What was your hardest vote? Why?

Survivor Penny: Erin was definitely my hardest vote, because she and I are still close to this day. I knew that she was going to be voted out that night, but there was nothing I could do to change it.

Visitor: Ken is hot. Did you ever get to peek at him?

Survivor Penny: [laughs] Peek at what? Ken's definitely a cutie.

Visitor: What did you think about Brian's comments about women?

Survivor Penny: Y'know, it really doesn't surprise me now, I guess, knowing what his second job is. [laughs] But luckily, a lot of people in this world don't think the way that he thinks.

Visitor: Penny, were you offended when Jake responded to your sleeping together comment by saying it was erotic?

Survivor Penny: No, it takes a lot to offend me.

Visitor: What did you miss the most while on the island?

Survivor Penny: I think most you miss your family, not being able to pick up the phone to say hi and how are you? How's your day? It's very difficult.
