Fotographs galore these days, but who actually has an oilpaint portrait of him or herself, of your partner or children? Undoubtbly this is because almost any one can handle a camera, while there aren't many people that can make a painting that bears a likeness to a loved one. That situation also is responsible for the fact that commissioning paintings, as a rule, is a costly hobby. That is sad, because a painted picture is something special, something of value, certainly when it has been produced with care.
I live in rural southern France, and my most important occupation is in portrait painting, using oils. Fact is that I don't depend on that for a living, which gives me the freedom to accept commissions I like. Yearly, I work on 8 to 10 painting projects. Prices vary from 200 to 800 Euro, depending on size and relative difficulty of the work, etc.
So far I have not been trying to specialise, making all kinds of portraits, mostly from elder people (which I like a lot because of their 'experienced' faces), children, female nudes, etc.
