Today was our first real opportunity to look at each other's web sites and work on setting up our first joint pages. Many of us (Japanese and American) have set up personal web pages; not too surprising, most of us are using a page per day diary/journal (similar to what you are reading now). Our joint pages are to be used on the school web sites, and will describe what we have done during this week and what we hope to accomplish during the year's collaboration.

Reiko also had a CD for me - a PowerPoint presentation detailing work down at her school this past year to develop a pool and garden in front of the school building. I am eager to show this one to my students.

Lunch at Culpeppers, and then off to downtown St. Charles to meet the Mayor, Patti York. More gifts are presented; the mayor is interested to hear that this will be a year-long collaboration, and reminds us that St. Charles should become more well-known when the Lewis and Clark Expedition celebrations get under way next year.

A shopping stop is made at "Bookmark", a local bookstore and teacher supply store. There is much excitement as the Japanese educators find things to take home for their own classrooms.

We three American teachers have a treat planned for tonight's dinner; we are presenting a progressive dinner party, a Midwest tradition that dates back many decades. The group starts at my house for salads (lettuce and veggies, and mixed fruit) and breads. After eating and visiting, we move on to Rita's house, where beef kabobs and shrimp scampi are being provided along with rice.

Terry's house is our last stop, and she is offering desserts - brownies, cheesecake, cherry and pumpkin pie, and angel food cake. During our stay there, the Japanese guests discover Terry's ping pong table in the basement, and proceed to play round robin matches with the Americans.

Tomorrow will be our final day of gathering - we plan to do some shopping and stroll through the antiques shops in the heart of St. Charles.
