d311 Pacific Coast Biscuit

This is among my most favorite sets of all and is probably my favorite minor league/PCL set. The d311 set is one of the more colorful prewar sets in existance, ranking up there with n162s, Delongs, etc...It is especially known for the subtle use of pastels and unique artwork, backgrounds and player poses. Released in 1911, the 72 card set depicts players from the six Pacific Coast League teams. While several cards are known to be more difficult than others, the Peckinpaugh is really the only card which would command a recognized premium. Buck Weaver, while a part of the d310 set also released in 1911, is abscent from this issue. One interesting fact is that players that do appear in both the d310 and d311 sets, are seen with the exact same pose.

D311s are typically well-handled and difficult to find in a condition that is above that of a PSA 3 or SGC 40 example. It is not overwhelmingly difficult to acquire a d311 as a type card for your collection, however, it is a challenge to acquire a large number of these so as to actually attempt to complete the set. I myself have about 30 of the cards and it may very well be another 8-10 years before I reach 40. Previously, it might have taken a collector 25 years or more to complete the set. Nowadays, that number may be even greater, if it's possible to do at all in the span of a single lifetime.
