One of the best kept secrets of the American
Automotive Industry is the Ford Contour. The fact of the matter was that
overall sales were not what was hoped from a 6 billion dollars project.
The Contour, named Mondeo in Europe, was Ford first true world car. (
The Focus is actually Fords second world car ).
I the early 90's Ford was in the necessity to
developed a medium size car for the American and European markets.
CDW27 was the name given to this platform. Ford management
estimated a budget of 6 billions dollars to the design of new engines,
transmissions and retooling in both north America and Europe, car plants
for the mass production of Ford's fist true world car.
The Ford Contour, was the replacement of the Ford
Tempo in north America. With the disenchantment for the medium size car
in the USA, the Contour went out of production during the 2000 year.
