Among the controversies surrounding Cutey Honey are her similarity to Sailor Moon and the sexual content in the OAV videos.  Here are my opinions on the two topics:

Cutey Honey Flash vs Sailor Moon: The big Sailor Moon vs. Cutey Honey Flash can basically be scaled down to a "who copied who?" question.  Because the original Cutey Honey series debuted in the 1970's , Cutey Honey is clearly not a rip-off of Sailor Moon.  However, I believe that without the immense popularity of the Sailor Moon series, Cutey Honey Flash would probably never have been made.  Besides, all the series really have in common is that the heroine is a teenage girl who has the ability to transform.  Where Honey works (pretty much) alone, Sailor Moon is the leader of the Sailor Scouts.  Honey can transform into whatever form she chooses, where Sailor Moon is pretty much limited to one form (not counting the disguise pen, but she rarely uses that). 
 

Cutey Honey: Hentai!?!: Over the last few years, many people have asked me "andromedastraine, you are a woman.  How can you like the Cutey Honey OAV series?  It's Hentai!"  Sure Cutey Honey contains nudity and sexual situations, but it's a total hoot!  Honey is a great role model for women: she's tough and independent, yet still feminine.  (As far as I'm concerned, people who think Cutey Honey is hentai have never seen a real hentai video...may I direct you towards La Blue Girl?!)
