vs Darlington 1 July

5-0 to Pickering

The game against Darlington wasn't the most exciting game the boys have played but it did have its moments. For example when our substitute goalie ran out to play the ball and missed it, resulting in a mad scramble to clear it from in front of our net. Scott made perhaps the play of the game by calmly blocking the ball with his body from going into the net. JP also gave us a some excitement when he fumbled the ball.

All in all the boys played well. Although Darlington managed to get a few shots on net and some great chances to score, the final score was Pickering 5 Darlington 0.

The boys are clearly on a roll....Scarborough Blizzards here we come.

vs KNSC 24 June

5-4 to Pickering

Another big win for our boys this evening. The game was a very challenging one on the part of the referee. Anyway, in spite of playing with two injured players and one absent our boys came through well. JP had burnt his back spending too much time in the pool and Brent is still recovering from a bruise to his side from last game. JP and Brent, the team thank you for your indispensable effort out there today. JP made an awesome save by punching over the goal, a shot that was certainly heading for the back of the net. A special thanks goes out to Oto who volunteered to play the first half in Net. Player of the game goes to Shane who scored 3 goals.

Way to go Boys.

vs Aurora, 17 June

4-1 to Pickering

The boys were on a roll, field conditions were much better than on Saturday, the weather conditions perfect for a beautiful game of soccer and the boys ready to play. The opponents were very strong and had an impressive record - 3 wins and 1 loss. They were also confident, perhaps too confident. Pickering opened the scoring early in the first half with a wonderful team effort and then scored again to make it Pickering 2 Aurora 0 at the end of the first half.

At half time the boys were very excited, and the coach had to remind them that the game was not over yet and that Aurora would probably come on stronger in the second half. The boys responded by scoring another goal before Aurora finally puts one in behind goalie JP. Pickering didn't like that so they scored again.

Final score Pickering 4 Aurora 1. Congratulations boys! A great game..

CSL Cup, Round 1, vs Etobicoke, June 14

2-1 to Pickering

Mud everywhere - what a mess! Etobicoke were very organized and they looked good but Pickering played hard, despite slipping and sliding in the mud. Perhaps the field conditions were in our favour!

Pickering opened the scoring on a ball that was crossed into the 18 yd box from a free kick, to end up in the back of the net from a well aimed boot. Etobicoke had several opportunities to score during the game and twice they hit the cross bar. However through sheer determination Pickering kept the score at 1-0 until the last few minutes of regulation time when Etobicoke scored to make it 1-1.

Since this was a cup game it went into overtime and the dreaded "golden goal", and thereafter it would be prenaltys. There was no score during the first nerve wracking overtime half. Second half continued much the same as the first. Parents and coaches were probably thinking "shoot out" but the Pickering boys had other things on their minds. A corner kick and a scramble in front of Etobicoke's net and then the goal scored. Final Result: Pickering 2 Etobicoke 1.

Well done boys. Good luck in the next round.

Peterborough -The one that got away,10 June

Peterborough 3 Pickering 2

Once again the score did not reflect the intensity of the game and, even though we lost, the boys came away with the feeling that they could beat Peterborough in future.

Peterborough opened the scoring early in the game with a goal from a free kick, but Pickering quickly leveled and after a while took the lead with some clever passes and a good finish. The first half ended with Pickering Power leading 2 - 1.

Peterborough came out very strong in the second half, tied the scoring then went on to take a 3-2 lead which held to the final score. Two of their three goals came off free kicks, and it seemed that every time we were closing in on their goal one of their players would go down hurt, the play would stop and the ref would do a 'drop ball'.

Malvern 3 June 2003

Win to Pickering Power 3-0

What an evening! Our field was taken, the same field had been assigned to two games! The kids were in a state of anxiety... no game? Impossible! After a lot of coaxing from coach Lance and some help from Phil we finally convinced the house league teams to give up the field to us, as well as their nets which was very kind of them.

The game against Malvern finally began at 7.30 and within a few minutes Pickering opened the scoring, making it 1-0 for Pickering. The boys managed to keep the score that way throughout the first half with some great goaltending by JP, and a determined effort by all of the players. In the second half we scored twice and kept Malvern from scoring with more great saves by JP. Although Malvern tried harder than ever the boys rose to the challenge to make the final score: Pickering 3, Malvern 0. This gives us our first win in the league games.

Congratulations boys !

Vaughn 29 May 2003

vs Vaughn at Vaughn. Win to Vaughn 5-1

This was a very windy and cold evening. The game was hard fought, but the opponents were very strong and close as a team. The boys did not give up, and held the score at 1-1 for quite some time. Then two goals in quick succession against Pickering made it a hard game to regain.
