FAQ What kinds of programs have we done?
A program entitled, "Helping Teens Deal More Effectively With Conflict",
was facilitated with teenagers aged 13-16 years old. They were part of a teen
leadership group of a Westchester County YMCA (located 15 miles from New York City).
This program was given in six 1 1/2 hour sessions.
A program entitled "Dealing With Conflict
Within The Family" was facilitated for adults, professionals and
parents. It was one of a series given at a youth residential hospital facility as
part of a community outreach program for people working and living in the area around this
facility. This program was given at two separate locations, one in Westchester
County, New York (about 35 miles from New York City) and the other in Saratoga County, New
York (about 100 miles from New York City). They were both given as single 1
1/2 hour sessions.
A program entitled, "The Anger Management
Power" (A.M.P.) Program was presented to high school students in one New
York City school as part of a four lesson unit. It was given to
these teenagers in law, psychology, health and special education english and social
studies classes. The A.M.P. Program was also given in two other
secondary schools in New York City in subject classes for young people who were a part of
a program provided for students interested in careers in law enforcement. Some of the
young people who participated in this program in one of these schools volunteered and were
prepared to become peer trainers. They presented this program in
health and law classes as a workshop which was part of an annual school event known as
Violence Awareness-Prevention Day.
In addition, the A.M.P. Program was presented as a 2 1/2 hour
college seminar. It was presented to students involved in a
Dispute Resolution program on three separate campuses of a private college. This seminar
was given on this institution's Westchester County, Bronx and Manhattan campuses. It was
also presented to a Sociology of Conflict class at one of the City University of New
York's colleges located in Manhattan.
The Anger Management Power (A.M.P.) Program was also
facilitated as a workshop provided for employees and supervisors at a private social
service agency, as well as to teachers and clinicians working in New York City Department
of Education high schools.
What other kinds of programs
are we planning?
We are planning a program entitled, "Horses As Partners-Pals to Youth,
H.A.P.P.Y.). It is scheduled for the near future and is initially designed
to include 20 teenage youngsters from a group home environment. The participants
will spend time, (between 2 and 6 days) learning about horses by receiving a hands-on
experience. They will also be developing skills in team building through cooperative
learning and receiving interactive training in anger and conflict management.
This program will be funded by a variety of sources. These may
include private donations, corporate giving or from grant sources. It will be
continued on an annual basis and expanded to include more youngsters. Youngsters who
have achieved the greatest degree of accomplishment during earlier exposure to the
H.A.P.P.Y. program will be given the opportunity to become co-trainers for later groups. |
