An Introduction to Pack 10
The Oldest Pack in Lincoln
Founded October 1, 1943

Scouting:

The purpose of Scouting is to develop good citizenship, environmental awareness, sportsmanship, and to promote personal growth and social development.

Membership:

Cub Scouts are open to any boy in the first through fifth grades. Boys in the first grade are in the Tiger Cub Den. Each Tiger Cub must have an adult sponsor who will accompany them to all meetings and activities. The Tiger Cub sponsors will work together to set up the activities for the Tiger Cub Dens.

Boys in second grade are in the Wolf Den, while those in grade 3 are in the Bear Den. They will have individual teams of adult leaders who will plan and lead their events. Boys in the forth and fifth grades are in Webelos, with their own sets of leaders.

Each Pack is made up of several Dens. Adult leadership includes a Cubmaster an Assistant Cubmaster, and a Pack Committee. The committee is made up of adult volunteers (usually parents) who take care of the "business" of running the Pack.

Meetings:

Meetings are held during the school year to work on badges, community projects, learn new skills, and have fun! Individual Dens meet two or three times per month as determined by their leaders.

The Pack meets once a month as a unit so all members and their parents can come together to recognize the achievements of the boys, view the projects they have been working on, and to have fun!

Pack meetings are held on the third Thursday of the school-year months and start at 7:00 p.m. at Bethany Christian Church. The Pack Committee meets on the second Thursday of the month to plan future Pack meetings and activities. All Parents and Sponsors are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings to help the committee direct the development of the Pack.

During the summer months the Dens will meet on their own depending on the goals of the individual groups. The Pack hosts a fun event at least once a month during this time.

Activities:

The Pack will schedule different types of activities each month, some are focused on the Scouts, while others include the entire family. Activities have included a Cake Auction, Pinewood Derby, Christmas Party, Family Campout, Swimming Party, Rock Climbing, and a Bowling Night. The Pack is able to sponsor many of these events at no additional cost to the boys.

Through our affiliation with the Cornhusker Council of the Boy Scouts of America, all Scouts have the opportunity to participate in Council sponsored events. Some of these events include a Fishing Derby, Day Camps, Overnight Camps (some of these have taken place at a Saltdogs game, the Children's Zoo, and Camp Cornhusker) and a Scout Jamboree. The cost of each event varies, with discounts available through the Pack.

Registration, Dues, & Fundraisers:

The yearly registration fee to join Cub Scouts is $10.00, due in December. All Scouts and adult leaders must register to be a part of the Pack. A Tiger Cub's registration covers both the boy and his adult sponsor. (To join at the start of the school year, registration is $6.80)

Pack activities and awards are paid for through Pack fundraisers. Each Den may, at the discretion of the Den Leaders, have monthly dues in order to pay for any supplies that they may need for the Den. This amount varies by Den.

Our primary source of income is the Council Popcorn Sale. This takes place during October and we ask all Scouts to participate. The money that we earn on this event will pay for all of our awards and most of our activities during the year. If you would like to opt out of participating in this fundraiser, you can do so by paying a "buyout" fee. This buyout depends on the amount needed to provide for a Scout for a year and will be set at the September Committee meeting.

A Cake Auction is held during our October Pack Meeting and is used to fund the Pack Christmas Party. We purchase gifts for each Scout and some of these gifts have included fishing rods, Lego sets, portable radios/cd players, clock radios, and handheld electronic games. All Scouts are asked to decorate a cake that will be auctioned to the parents and friends of the Pack. Prizes are awarded to the Scouts for the three best decorated cakes.

Uniforms and Handbooks:

We ask all boys to have an Official Boy Scouts of America uniform. The uniform for our Pack consists of the blue Cub Scout shirt, a neckerchief, slide, belt, and the Scout Handbook for their rank. Optional uniform pieces are Scout pants, socks and hats. Webelos have the option of wearing the khaki Boy Scout shirt. These can be purchased at the Scout Service Center Trading Post (600 S 120 th St, 488-6020).

A Pack T-shirt is also available and can be worn for many of our Pack activities. These are available through the Pack and can be worn by Scouts, parents, siblings, and leaders.

Each Scout has the opportunity to subscribe to Boy's Life, a magazine published by the Boy Scouts of America, at the discounted rate of $10.80 a year.
