Ralph Holden is the author of Garden Railways Magazine's column "A Letter From Australia".

The management of the Toenail Ridge Shortline, in company with the management of New Zealand's Squirrel Valley Railway, were fortunate indeed in being invited to participate in a running session with Ralph at his home in Adelaide, South Australia, on October 21st, 1998.

Following are some photos and observations of this magnificent depiction of South Australia's history and heritage.

Click on the thumbnail to view the great scratchbuilt work of this master modeller. All models are constructed to 1:32 scale, 3'6" gauge, consistent with the practice of the South Australian Railways narrow gauge. Ralph uses handlaid code 100 nickel-silver track on balsa sleepers, and uses O gauge wheelsets. His models are powered by Pitman motors and gearboxes, EVERYTHING else is scratchbuilt. Some of these fine models are over 30 years old and have been running regularly all of that time.
