The 2nd New Jersey was formed with the 3rd Company, 3rd Battalion of the USV for the 140th Gettysburg event. During the course of the weekend, the 3rd Battalion USV portrayed various units that were in key positions at Gettysburg. For the opening battle the battalion was the 56th Pennsylvania. During the second day, the 148th Pennsylvania in the Wheatfield.
On the third day, during Pickett's Charge, the Battalion portrayed the 16th Vermont, who were out at Emmitsburg road as skirmishers. When they were pulled back during the Confederate charge, their position was such that they were able to swing out as the charge reached "The Angle" and pour fire into the flanks of the Rebels.
