CHILDREN OF DAVID POLLOCK

Last up-dated: 07/12/01

David Pollock b. 30 Oct 1739 in Berwick-in-Tweed, m. 12 Dec 1779, Sarah Homeria Parsons, d. 17 Feb 1817 in London. David died 1 Sep 1815 in London. Both David and Sarah were both buried in the crypt in St Marti-in-the-Fields, where David seems to have been beadle.
David was saddler to George III and and the Prince Regent, later George IV. This would have entitled him to use the term Esquire, and obliged him to atend the King personally. When David died, Sarah was appointed Saddler by a Warrant dated September 19th, 1815.
According to Alice Pollock, he was reputed to have walked from his home town of Berwick in Northumberland to London, and to have established his shop in Trafalgar Square (Ref 2). However, Trafalgar Square was not built until the early 1800's. In fact, he set up his first shop in Picadilly and then later he established another shop at the north end of Whitehall where Trafalgar Square was built later, leaving Peter Laurie (later Sir Peter Laurie, Lord Mayor of London) in charge of the Picadilly shop (Ref. 4).

According to Alexander Pollock:

David Pollock was made Burgess of Berwick 8 September 1786 "By Patrimony as Eldest Son of John Pollock", who, on 5 June 1724, was made Burgess of Berwick, and who was buried at Tweedmouth 9 April 1750. The latter's Father was David Pollock of "Spittle, Durham", who died 16 October 1743 and was buried at Tweedmouth. (Ref 1).

David Pollock had 9 children, but only five of them lived long enough to get married, and only three (all males) actually had children.
