18TH APRIL- LITTLE ALEXEI'S GODFATHER
Margarett Catalini has recently given me the following information that she found at International GYMNAST Online:
World all-around champion Ivan Ivankov, from Belarus, reported to International GYMNAST that he was recently named the godfather to good friend Alexei Nemov's young son. Ivankov said that he and his girlfriend Suzy visited Nemov in Russia several weeks ago. During the visit, Nemov and his wife, Galina, named the couple as godparents to their son, Alexei, who was born last September.
While father Alexei was in Australia for the Olympics, Suzy was present with Galina for the birth of Alexei Jr.

20TH FEBRUARY- ANOTHER TITLE FOR ALEXEI
Alexei Nemov was voted "Athlete of the Year" for 2000 by the Russian Olympic Committee. He received his award on Saturday, February 17 at a banquet held at Moscow's Olimpisky arena.
He received this award over fellow Olympic Russian champions Irina Privalova (track and field), Dmitry Sautin (diving), and Yevgeny Kafelnikov (tennis).
Other attendees at the banquet, held in honor of all Russian Olympians, included International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch, and gymnasts Svetlana Khorkina, Yelena Zamolodchikova, Alina Kabayeva, Yulia Barsukova, and Lidia Ivanova.

6TH JANUARY - ALEXEI UP FOR ANOTHER AWARD
Alexei is nominated for the annual World Sports Awards, the ceremony for which will be held in London at the Royal Albert Hall, January 16, 2001.  On-line voting, which contributes toward the official result (it counts as 1 vote in the jury of 150), finished on 6th January, with Alexei holding 52.18% of the votes.  His major competition is American cycling hero, Lance Armstrong, who held 32.95%.  We'll just have to wait to see whether Alexei wins!! (btw - Alexei has already confirmed that he will be present at the ceremony!)

29TH DECEMBER - AWARDS FOR ALEXEI
As 2001 comes to a close, newspapers, news agencies, and journalist associations from around the world have begun to announce their lists of top athletes, teams, and coaches of both the year and the century.
Alexei Nemov (RUS): "Runner-Up Russian Athlete of the Year" by ITAR-TASS News Agency and among "Top Ten Athletes of the Year" (unranked) by Federation of Russian Sports Journalists.

20TH DECEMBER - RESULTS FROM ZENITH TOURNAMENT
Aleksei Nemov had just finished his two month tour of the US when he returned to this post-tour competition in Paris, France.  He was fifth on both floor exercise and high bar.

Floor
Igors Vihrovs (LAT) 9.725
Jordan Jovtchev (BUL) 9.700
Dmitry Karbanenko (FRA) 9.600
Florent Marée (FRA) 9.500
Alexei Nemov (RUS) 9.000

Gossip - Apparently, the only reason Alexei Nemov received low scores was because he started playing around (striking poses, waving to the audience) before the performance was over.  Obviously, he was the crowd favourite =)
