The Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is a game derived from playwright John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation, a dark comedy of manners in which the notion is posited that everyone in the world is related to everyone else by no more than six degrees of separation. You take any actor and hook him up with Kevin Bacon through movies he was in with other people. Get it?

The Rules:

1) When dealing with movies anything goes! It doesn't matter if the actor was in the credits, or if it was only a cameo. If they appeared in the movie they casn be used (Even Extras!!)

  2) You must connect the actor in six steps or less. The actor is the first step and Kevin is the last.
  3) The fewer the links the better.
  4) Television. Many people don't like to use TV shows and TV movies but according to the creators it is okay but as long as you adhere to the following: If the person was on a TV show, he or she had to have been a regular. No cameos. If the person was in a TV movie he or she had to have had a "real part." By using TV you can connect some really cool people, like everyone's favorite talking car Kit. Why don't you try it?

5) JFK. Everyone in the world is in this movie. You can use it but it is recommended that you stay as far away from it as you can.

Here is an example:

You Say "Sylvester Stallone"

I say...

Sylveter Stallone was in "Cliffhanger" with John Lithgow

John Lithgow was in "Footloose" with Kevin Bacon

So you see Sylvester Stallone has a "Bacon Number" of Two

Now you try one, Link Robin Williams . . .         ...Can't get it?? Click here for the answer.

Bacon #: The number of steps to link an actor to Kevin Bacon in know as that actor's Bacon Number. Calculations such as these produce Bacon Numbers which some find surprising. Such diverse actors from earlier Hollywood history as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Ronald Reagan, Bette Davis, Buster Keaton, and Humphrey Bogart, all have Bacon Numbers of 2. Even Charlie Chaplin is separated from Bacon by only 3. The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia, has calculated that the average Bacon Number for all actors is 2.8. According to them, more than 1,200 actors have Bacon numbers of 1; over 74,000 have numbers of 2; and over 133,000 have Bacon Numbers of 3.

My Number: Let men tell you a little story. I am a wrestling fan, and in Dec '99 I went to see a WCW nitro in Baltimore, MD. The arena was full at 7:30, but everyone knows Nitro doesn't start until 8. The announcer came over the PA system and informed us that we were needed to help get some crowd reaction for the movie "Ready To Rumble" which co-starred WCW's Diamond Dallas Page. So I was in the movie as an extra within that crowd reaction for the last match. So, back to my number, The star of "Ready To Rumble"was Oliver Platt who was in Flatliners with Kevin Bacon giving me a Kevin Bacon Number of 2!
