For New Moms.....

This is for you !!!

The more things change..................................
We used to enjoy long evenings out and casually dining
But now we're on our way home by 7:00 with two balloons
floating in the back window.
You used to send me flowers.
But now we both know what a waste of money that is,
because the girls need shoes.
We used to leave love notes on the kitchen table.
Now it's "Throw girls jeans in dryer" and "put dog out."
I used to light candles on that same table.
Last time I lit those candles was the night the electricity went off.
I used to make you stuffed pork chops and peanut butter kisses.
Now we both have to watch our cholesterol.
(Baked chicken breast and fresh fruit compote aren't nearly as much fun.)
You once came through the door with a tiny white kitten concealed in your coat.
She became my lap cat.
Now the felines in this house wear dresses and ride in doll strollers.
On Sunday mornings, I used to pray for a greater commitment to Christ and you.
Now I just hope to hear the sermon in peace.
It really gave me confidence when you would tell me how "professional" I looked in my clothes.
Now it means a lot to me when you say,
"You look really tired. Tough day with the kids?"
The thought of any other girl coming between us would
have devastated me not so long ago.
Now, there are two between us every time we sit down on the couch.
I remember nights that were filled with the passion of love's fever.
Now we're just as likely to spend the night sponging her fever down in tepid bath water.

The more they stay the same........................................
But I still hold your jacket up to my face before I hang it, so I can take in the essence of you.
And I still pray for your safe return from work each night.
I still feel like an orphaned sock when you are mad at me.
I still care more about what you think than anyone else I've ever known.
When you say my name, my heart still skips. Just once.
When the girls ask me if they'll marry someone like Daddy one day,
I get a lump in my throat.
Because, chances are slim
And sometimes when I wonder if God is truly guiding my life,
I look at your face and realize only something divine could have brought us together.
