Participating writers, in order of registration:

1. Dan Morrison (Mumbai, India): Hardcore American journalist covering South Asia at present, smoker of Nat Sherman cigarettes. Find his work in Newsday, Village Voice, Christian Science Monitor and FEER (Far Eastern Economic Review.

2. Emmet Cole (Dublin, Ireland): The Bringer Of Pain, some say. A wickedly funny writer, musician and lyricist. His writing has been seen in Red Herring, The Philosopher, The Modern Word, and BookView Ireland.

3. Paulino Accolla (Mumbai, India): Playboy and savant, Paulino Accolla has just finished writing his first novel in English. Find his extensive work as a journalist in Corriere Del Sera, Italy's leading newspaper.

4. Rohit Gupta (Mumbai, India): A columnist for Mid Day, and author of Play-On Edward & Other Stories, an e-novel, a stage play, and several screenplays. Also, the petrified host of the event (which he's not allowed to win).

5. James R. Norton (New York City, USA): Once the Middle East Editor of the Christian Science Monitor, and now working with political comedian Al Franken, Jim's fiction is a hoot. He is also the founder of the delectable Flak Magazine.

6. Kersi Khambatta (Mumbai, India) : Known as El Capitano by friends. Ex-sailor and now working in Bombay with a shipping firm, besides writing travelogues and most recently, a screenplay.

7. Leo Mirani (Mumbai, India): Writes on cinema for Tehelka, AFP and Box Office. Leo Mirani is "just like tom thumbs blues, only drunk."

8. Jordyn Steig (Mumbai, India): American writer living in Mumbai preparing a manuscript about the social imprint of film production. Anthropologist, actor, and now venturing as a producer of independent films.

9. Sunil R. Nair (Mumbai, India): Has written four books, including Vignettes (poetry) and Chatroom Blues (novel). The only male columnist for New Woman magazine, his work has also been sighted in Si Senor and WriterMelon.

10. Gabriel Greenberg (Mumbai, India): Gabriel Greenberg is a comic artist and illustrator from E. Dummerston, Vermont, and creator of The Moonhouse, a graphic novel about the lost music of Vera Hall. He will draw a graphic novel in 58 hours.

11. Sunil Gokhale (Pune, India): He has translated Marathi humorist P.L. Deshpande for Metamorphosis. An accomplished writer from Pune, Gokhale has written columns and features in leading Indian media. He is the author of Lottery - fiction for children, and a one-act play.

12. Al Sotack (New York City,USA): A former weekly columnist for The Washington Square News and a contributor to the New York Observer. One of his favorite novels, "Closely Observed Trains" by Bohumil Hrabal, was allegedly written in one sitting.

13. Suzanne Nixon (USA): A poet with a chapbook in publication and a CD of spoken words. She did a multimedia experiment at The Modern Word, and keeps a poetic journal here.

14. Sujata Kumar (Mumbai, India): She is not a writer, but considering that she acts and has done a mind-boggling array of jobs, she is the kind of person who should be doing this. Sujata also runs Boffins Wit QGames, a corporate gaming company.

15. Max Babi (Pune, India): A star attraction - Max is a noted scientist in metallurgy and plasma technologist, when not publishing columns on world jazz. He finished a novel recently, but will participate in the write-a-thalon to hasten recovery from a nasty fistulectomy. [ Ed: It's good for you!]

16. Pia Wilson (New York City, USA): A musician, writer and film-maker. Her short script Blinding Goldfish made its debut at the New Zealand 2004 Gay & Lesbian Television and Video festival. She also wrote scripts for Kinoeye Inc, Russia. Her short fiction has appeared in the Summerset Review.

17. Tom Bradley (Nagasaki, Japan): When Tom Bradley was a little boy he was given a Gazetteer for Christmas. As little boys will, he looked up all the places in the world that started with the F-word. There were two, Fukien in China and Fukuoka in Japan. Little did he suspect that he would one day be exiled to both. To date Tom has written five novels tracing the not-quite-career of a seedy member of the lumpen-intelligentsia name Sam Edwine, they are - Killing Bryce, Acting Alone, Black Class Cur, Kara-kun / Flip-kun, and The Curved Jewels.

18. Amy Chavez (Shiraishi, Japan): Born in Ohio, she now lives on Shiraishi Island, populated by 800 people, in Japan's Indland Sea. She writes the humour column Japan Lite, one of the most successful columns in The Japan Times. She is currently on a ship to Australia.

19. William J. Neven (Okinawa, Japan): An American journalist currently living on an airbase in Okinawa, Japan with his airman son. Author of one novel - The Final Phase, and many articles and essays. William's short story "The OBE" has recently appeared in My Legacy, a magazine.

20. A.R. Yngve (Oslo, Norway): A prolific author with leanings in fantasy and science fiction. Some of his novels are Alien Beach (1997), Alien Land (2001), Darc Ages (1993), Galactic Gangsta (2003), Parry's Protocol(1993), Project Argus, Terra Hexa (1998), Woman Without Veil (2001).

21. Aishwarya Subramanian (New Delhi, India): She maintains a blog. Her guns blaze in the realm of experimental literature.

22. Sara Karl (NYC, USA): Currently the co-host of BAZ morning show on 102.5 WBAZ - FM, Long Island, NY. Sara is a theatre professional, with a history in classical training, radio shows, solo travelling plays, stand up comedy, journalism, short-fiction and a full-length multimedia play.

23. Nuzhat Anwar (Pune, India): Armed with a Masters in English literature, bachelors in history and Media Design certificate from Harper. She's currently at Roosevelt. She is especially interested in teaching young children.

24. Prayas Abhinav (Ahmedabad, India): Poet, visual artist and editor of Crimson Feet magazine. He also manages art projects for the same organisation.

25. Mike Atherton (London, UK): He is a word in a story by Shelley Jackson. His work, alonside Michael Moorcock, has appeared in The Guardian, and other writing on Bookslut, and SpineJack.

26. Manjushree (Ahmedabad, India): Trained and drained as a filmmaker, she has now sighted higher ground. Working on two screenplays and a home which auto-dirties every night, she's in it for the fun.

27. Snehal Nair (Ahmedabad, India): He is a documentary filmmaker and visual artist. He is also a student of human rights.

28. Maryse Schouella (Sao Paolo, Brazil): Born in Alexandria, Egypt, where she lived until 20 years old. She lived in Paris from 1957 to 1961, married in 1961 and came to Brazil. She is a teacher/translator/writer.

29. Dan Moran (New York City, USA): An actor in New York City for the last twenty five years. Worked with Sam Shepard, Arthur Miller, Woody Allen, Spike Lee, and John Shanley. His writing has consisted mainly of plays (full and one-acts), short stories, screenplays, and poetry. He had productions of his play ‘Separation of Sleep’ performed at New York University, Samuel French One-Act Play Festival, and at New York Stage & Film. Another one-act ‘Joey’s Jive’ has been performed at NYU and the Manhattan Class Company One-Act Play Festival.

30. Devi Shakti (Eastern USA): Devi is a hypnotherapist and writer. She has been writing since she can remember. Her previous output high has been 50,000 words in 10 days, so she wants to try to best that in this competition.

31. Vikranth (Mumbai, India): "I direct plays and write screenplays on the side. I haven't sold any screenplay but nevertheless I keep writing as and how I can. I have studied film writing for about a year now on my own."

34. Jagmohan Bhanver (Mumbai, India): President of the Writer's Society of India. "I am a banker, and a writer. I have written one book (non fiction, titled, Get Happy Now)published through JAICO. JAICO has also commissioned me to do a series of management books, which is underway. On the fiction side, I am working on a novel which is half-completed and should be market-ready by the fourth quarter of this year."

Louise Valmoria (Melbourne, Australia): "I’ve previously succeeded in the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo 2002) and am seeking another challenge—I’m in this for the fun, and for the goal-setting. Most of my previous published writing experience has been freelance work for local Melbourne publications."

37. Jeremy Keillor (Seattle, USA): A Seattle based writer connected with Richard Hugo House who has writing in his blood. He's written numerous stories and some poetry as well as a stint as a sportswriter.

38. Greg Schultz (Oshkosh Wisconsin, USA): "I am a 40 years old and live in a medium size midwestern US city. My hobbies include Playing hand drums, drawing, photography and travel. In April I exhibited some of my drawings and photographs at a local art gallery. I also am interested in horticulture and archaeology. One year I planted 500 hot chile pepper plants and gave the produce to freinds."

40. Catherynne M. Valente (Yokosuka, Japan): was born in 1979 in Seattle, WA, but grew up in Northern California. She graduated from high school at age 15, going on to UC San Diego and Edinburgh University, receiving her B.A. in Classics with an emphasis in Ancient Greek Linguistics. She currently residing in Yokosuka, Japan, among the sushi and the geisha.Her work in poetry and fiction can be found online and in print in such journals as NYC Big City Lit, The Pomona Valley Review, Poetic Injustice and the forthcoming anthology Approaching El Dorado. Her first chapbook, Music of a Proto-Suicide, was released in winter, 2004. Over 2004/05, three of her novels and a full length poetry collection are scheduled to be published through Prime Books. Her critical work will appear this spring in the International Journal of the Humanities. She received a Special Commendation for Service in the Arts from California State University in 2003.

41. Sarah Corson (Chicago, USA): A poet, freelance writer and editor (link: www.saicorson.com), Sai Corson also teaches creative writing (link: www.osmotix.com) and is a graduate student in Writing at the Chicago School of the Art Institute. Founder of Chicago's Page Poets' Ensemble (link: www.saicorson.com/album.html), she hopes to give justice in the third dimension to finer poetics otherwise short-shrifted by the bombast of "Spoken Word." She aligns herself with the project of investigative poetry, (although not necessarily the precedented politics): journalistic content, lyrical form.

42. Ande Corryn (Canada): A high-maintenance Canadian who suffers from psychosomatic dysgraphia. She is very tired of people who say "you should be published!" as though this were a new concept. She is sure she has no business being here but hopes no one will notice. She happily completed NaNoWriMo (Nation Novel Writing Month) in 2001 and 2003 and is looking forward to something that only takes up one weekend.

43. Lynn Hodges (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma): "I'm a thirty-one year old housewife and stay at home mother in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in the United States. I've been writing roughly since I was fifteen in various styles and formats and at this time and place I find myself ready for the challenge this Write-a-thalon represents."

44. Bill Ramsey (Ben Wheeler, Texas USA): Bill Ramsey is a freelance daredevil-journalist, graphic designer, and illustrator, a veteran of the alternative newspaper scene, and editor of a monthly community newspaper produced from his 30-foot travel trailer on a small ranch in Texas. This pays the bills and allows him endless hours to devote to his pop-culture blog, The Trailer Essays.

45. Jasmeet Chhabra (Mumbai, India): The author of one novel - Crossroads. Jasmeet has completed his second novel which is market ready. It is titled "Norman Pinglepop" and is a satire on Godhood and the vagaries of power.

46: Sam Amidon (New York City, USA): Born and raised in Brattleboro, Vermont, USA. Sam just finished college, and now resides in New York City. Sam has performed (fiddle, banjo, sing) music professionally since a young age, with his family, the avant-folk band Assembly, and the indie rock band Doveman. He's also been an avid drawer and comics artist since a young age, and will be drawing a graphic novel for The Great Mahakali Write-A-Thalon.

47. Stephanie Clarkson (Ontario, Canada): Stephanie Clarkson is a web developer (http://www.sleepingcat.com) who does a little writing. She wants to be, in the future, a writer who does a little web development.
