The remainder of the family appear to have come to Australia as Assisted Immigrants, most likely sponsered by George.
The family - George and Elizabeth, with Elizabeth, Jane and husband James, Humphrey, Ruth and Luke - boarded the 'Omega' on 3 June 1856 and arrived at Geelong 16 Sep 1856.

Hi Elizabeth,
Noticed your page while researching CLARRICOATES in Victoria, Australia.
While researching descendants of an old family tree, I found a Mary Jane McKEAN marrying William Alfred CLARRICOATES in 1874 in Victoria. William died in 1879 aged 24. The Victorian Pioneers Index lists his parents as being John CLARRICOATES & Harriet TWIGG.
From what I have found so far, William & Mary Jane had at least 3 children:
Thomas McKean, b.1874 - married Flora WATT 1904
Henry Alfred, b.1878
Harriet Wilhelmina, b.1879

Although I would have to take another look, I believe I also saw Harriet TWIGG's death listed. I think it was on the Victorian Federation Index. Cheers
Mark of New Zealand

------------------------------------------

So I looked and replied

Hi
To 1888 where my CD stops. Also notice the three spellings of the surname, makes it hard for computer to be convinced all are same family.

CLARICOATES George Henry born at DERB, died aged 9 son of John and Harriet, 1862#1897
CLARRICOATES William Alfred Male of LINCOLNSHIRE wed MCKEAN Mary John 1874 #2891 (March or April)
CLARRICOATS Thomas Mckean Born at TARNAGULLA Unknown Mary John MCKEAN 1874 #19678R (reg August)
CLARRICOATES Henry Alfred Born at DU RH William Alfred Mary John MCKEAN 1878 #2110 (reg January)
CLARRICOATS Harriet Wilhelmina Mary Born 1879 #22586 at DURHAM LEAD William Alfred Mary John MCKEAN 1879 #22586 (reg Sep)

CLARRICOTS William Alfred 1855 - 1879 #1072 aged 24 son of John and Harriet Twigg, of Lincolnshire (reg Feb)

The Index gives the year and number of the record.
I find the approximate month the event was recorded by getting the total registrations of births or deaths for the year, then divide the record number by the total to get its approximate place in the list.

Thus when Thomas Mckean was born he was too soon after the marriage, so father is listed as Unknown.
Whereas Harriet Wilhelmina Mary was born Sept so conceived by William Alfred.
Also looks like little brother also came to Aust.
Can not find second marriage or more children for Mary John McKean, nor any death for Harriet and John, so assume they went elsewhere.

All written before I looked at my own Twigg page, which started this correspondence.

-------------------------------

Mark now writes - Well, I think this will be my last email to you.
Having been back to the library, looking at the BDMs after 1920, I have found that the CLARRICOATES line does not connect to the THOMSON family I am researching.
I found the death listings for Mary John Clarricoates, listed as daughter of John McKEAN & Mary Ann Campbell McINTYRE,
aged 86. Reg.No. 17264 (Unfortunately I forgot to write down the year, Think it was 1944 or 1945)
Thomas Mckean Clarricoates died 1934 Reg.No.14961
Henry Alfred Clarricoates died 1942 Reg.No.30373

Dear Elizabeth
I have been reading your page with regard to Ruth Twigg who married William Moore in 1857. Ruth had more than four children - in fact nine. They were Luke, Elizabeth, Hannah, George, Ellen, William, George, Ruth and Thomas. The reason for the two George's is because the first George died of a tumour of the heart aged 9 months. William, George, Ruth and Thomas were all born in Brunnerton, Westland, NZ. William and Ruth are my g.g.grandparents.
Regards
Glynis Jackson

The only shipping records that I could find was on 12 Feb 1868, Hannah, Luke and Mrs Moore departed Melbourne and arrived in Greymouth on the Rangitoto. Ruth would have been pregnant with William at that time but I have no idea where Ellen was as she certainly came out to NZ.

Do you have a copy of "Twigg's Branching Out", which was published after the reunion? Although there are quite a few mistakes in that book, its a good resource.
