Those of you who have dogs know how they can easily pull on your heart strings. We have two very special babies in our lives that have been yanking on our heart strings for years now. They are our rottie babies. You can't tell them that they're dogs though. Oh no... they think they're human and believe me they act like it lol
Athena In 1993 I adopted Athena. She was 8 weeks old then, and she was the "baby girl". Little Miss Athena was my little Princess. She would take my place when I wasn't home. If Lance were to come home late she'd chew him out lol, (which was good because so did I)if the kids were out of her site for a second she'd be hollering at them. She had ATTITUDE! But that's okay we wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Sadly, Athena passed away due to old age in June of 2002. She was 9 years old. We miss her more than mere words can describe but her memory lives on. Cerberus seems to have taken on quite a few of her mannerisms lol |
Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special
friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and
sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and
content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to
them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Cerberus
In1994 We adopted Cerberus. At the time he was 8 weeks old. What a big brave boy he was. He came to us all the way from Louisiana. Cerberus is approximately 150lbs and his the biggest baby you've ever seen and Athena is his sweetheart. He'd be completely lost without her. Even though she beats on him from time to time lol. Those big drown eyes of his just melt my heart everytime he looks at me. He loves to lay behind the toilet and surprisingly enough with how big he is, he actually fits lol..This isn't the best picture of our Cerberus but I hope to get a new and better picture of him really soon. |
If
a dog were your teacher, here's what you'd learn...
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Good things happen when you practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout.
Run
right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
And while you're at it, thank God for simple pleasure and the gift of closeness
to
loved ones. Who knows, you may get your ears scratched.

How about a little info
on our breed of choice? Good! I thought you'd like that
Brief Historical Summary
The Rottweiler is considered to be one of the oldest breeds of dog. Its origin goes back to Roman times. These dogs were kept as herder or driving dogs. They marched over the Alps with the Roman legions, protecting the humans and driving their cattle. In the region of Rottweil, these dogs met and mixed with the native dogs in a natural crossing. The main task of the Rottweiler now became the driving and guarding of the herds of cattle and the defense of their masters and their property. This breed acquired its name from the old federal town of Rottweil and was known as the " Rottweiler Butcher's Dog". The butchers bred this type of dog purely for performance and usefulness. In due course, a first rate watch and driving dog evolved which could also be used as a draught dog. When, at the beginning of the twentieth century, various breeds were needed for police service, the Rottweiler was amongst those tested. It soon became evident that the breed was highly suitable for the tasks set by police service and, therefore, they were officially recognized as police dogs in 1910.
Temperament - Behavior and Character
Being good natured, placid and fond of children in basic disposition, he is very devoted : obedient, biddable and eager to work. His appearance is natural and rustic, his behavior self assured, steady and fearless. He reacts to his surroundings with great alertness.
So there you have it.... a wonderful breed and a wonderful life long companion. Now everyone has their own preferences in breeds, and that's perfectly fine. However as for me and my family these dogs are the right dogs for me and my family. We could not imagine our lives without them. They aren't just animals or dogs to us.....they are family.
