Activities

We have several activities every month. Some are just for mom, some for mom and kids, and some for the whole family!

  • MONTHLY BUSINESS MEETING: We meet on the first Tuesday of each month to discuss the business of the club, upcoming activities and events, and of course just to socialize. Many months we have a speaker at the meeting to speak on a topic of interest to moms, kids and families.

  • CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES: Each month we have at least 2 children's activities, usually late morning/early afternoon on the second Tuesday and third Wednesday of each month. Extra activities are scheduled for seasonal events and open playgroups. These provide opportunities for you and your children to get out and socialize with other moms and kids, during the day. We try to schedule a variety of activities that will appeal to different age groups. Some of our children's activities include:
    • Park Play Days
    • Bumper Bowling
    • Pittsburgh Children's Museum
    • Idlewild
    • Playtime at Mr. Roger's Neighborhood in Monroeville Mall
    • Pittsburgh Zoo
    • Seasonal Parties

  • MOM'S NIGHT OUT: One evening each month (usually the third Friday) we have a Mom's Night Out. Some of our Mom's Nights Out have included:
    • Cosmic Bowling
    • Scavenger Hunt
    • Scrapbooking Night
    • Mini Golf
    • Holiday and End-of-Year Banquets
    • Game Night at a member's home
    • Movie & Dessert

  • FAMILY ACTIVITIES: We schedule occasional weekend or evening activities for the whole family. Some of our family activities have included:
    • Annual Father's Day Picnic
    • Wildwood Highlands Recreation Area
    • Idlewild Multi-Chapter Day
    • Schramm's Farm Fall Pumpkin Festival
    • Overly's Holiday Light Display

  • INTEREST GROUPS: There are several smaller interest groups within our chapter.
    • Cooking Group - meets once per month for a "potluck" style lunch and to exchange recipes, based on a particular theme for the month
    • Breakfast Bunch - meets the last Friday of the month at restaurants around the area. Come enjoy a tasty breakfast while someone else cooks and cleans the dishes! Bring your kids or come alone!
    • Book Group - meets periodically to discuss a book selected by one of the members.

  • PLAYGROUPS: Playgroups are formed by moms from within the club. Once formed, they operate mostly independently of the chapter, scheduling meetings according to the members' preferences and schedules. Playgroups are generally set up based on the ages of the kids involved. Meetings usually rotate among the playgroup members' houses, but might also occasionally meet at a park, the zoo, or any other place the members agree upon.

  • STORKS FOR MOMS: While not exactly an "activity", our Storks Committee is a vitally important part of our club. The Storks Committee organizes member volunteers to prepare and deliver several meals for a member and her family upon the arrival of a new baby; or, when the member is in need of such assistance due to other circumstances (e.g., a death or serious illness in the family).

  • SERVICE PROJECTS: We do service projects every year; usually at least one in the fall and one in the winter or spring. Past service projects have included:
    • Juvenile Diabetes Walkathon
    • Collection for Toys for Tots
    • A holiday "Angel Tree" to provide gifts for families through McKeesport Family Services
    • Project Diaper Bag to provide diaper bags and supplies for impoverished moms in the Dominican Republic.
