10. The Vibhuti Yoga

Sri Bhagavan said:

O Mighty armed, listen again my supreme word, which desiring your welfare and good I shall declare to you who are delighted with my utterances.

10-1

Neither the hosts of gods nor the great sages know my birth or glory; for I am verily the prime source of all the gods and the great sages.

10-2

He who knows me as the unborn, the prime mover and as the supreme Lord of the Universe is the one amongst men that is not deluded and that is freed from all sins.

10-3

Intelligence, knowledge, non-delusion, forbearance, truthfulness, self-restraint, focusing the mind on the Lord, pleasure, pain, creation and sustenance, fear and fearlessness, harmlessness, equanimity, contentment, charity, fame and ill-fame - all these various determinations of beings, emanate only from me.

10-4,5

The seven great Rishis of the proceeding Manvanthara and the four manus born of the mind of Brahma are born of Me. So also the people in this world who have descended from them.

10-6

He who exactly understands the supreme nature and power of mine, becomes endowed with unfaltering yoga and there is no doubt about this.

10-7

I am the origin of all and from me everything proceeds. Understanding thus, the wise worship and contemplate on me, with complete devotion.

10-8

With there mind fixed on me, with there activity directed to me, Imparting knowledge to pupils, ever conversing about me, they are satisfied and joyful.

10-9

On them, who are constantly contemplating and worshipping me with devotion, I confer that special type of knowledge by which they attain me.

10-10

Just out of pure mercy for them, I dispel, seated in their minds, the bounds of misery born of ignorance, by means of the shining light of wisdom.

10-11

Arjuna said:

O Lord, you are the supreme and perfect being, the supreme abode and the most holy. All the Rishis, the divine Risi Narada as well, Asita, Devala and Vyasa praise you as Purusa, possessing in full the six attributes of being eternal, divine, the first Lord, the unborn and possessor of innumerable forms. You also proclaim the same to me now.

10-12,13

O Keshava, all this that you tell me I faithfully believe as true. O blesses Lord, certainly neither the gods nor the Danavas do or can comprehend your glorious and extraordinary power.

10-14

O Purushottama, Source and ruler of all beings, God of gods, Lord of the world, you alone know yourself by your power.

10-15

O Lord, you alone are capable of telling me completely the glories of your Divine manifestations by means of which you remain pervading all these worlds.

10-16

O Yogi, how can I know you though I may constantly meditate unless you tell me in what things and in what manner you are to be meditated upon.

10-17

O Janardhana, relate to me again in detail your Yoga and the special forms in which you are to be worshipped; for me, there is no satisfaction much less satiety in hearing your nectar like speech.

10-18

10-39

O Partha, there is no end to my divine forms. This much has been narrated only by way of exemplification only of my glorious forms.

10-40

Whatsoever being is excellent, splendid and mighty, know that to have come into existence from a fragment of my splendor.

10-41

O Arjuna, what after all will you gain by knowing all these in detail? That will be little indeed when compared to the gain you will have by knowing me in full form and effulgence. In effect I hold this Universe in full, pervading it merely by a fragment of my illimitable power.

10-42

Thus ends the tenth chapter of the Upanishads of the Bhagavad Gita, entitled "The Vibhuti Yoga".
