Tasha's (shown in the photo on the left with BC the cat) early life was very difficult. She and her two sisters were
picked up off the street by the dog catcher when they were less than
eight weeks old. Tasha was the runt. For the first few weeks when she
lived in the animal control facility, she got very little food because
her sisters ate it all first. When I finally got her home, she was a
sickly bloated little thing for the first few weeks.I began to notice that she really didn't like to be held too much. Over time, she began to "get over it" around me, so I didn't worry too much. Then I realized that she was acting very funny around strangers. She would put her tail between her legs and hide whenever anyone tried to touch her.
She is still very much like this. Sometimes, she even growls at people if they do not ignore her warning signs. Agility classes are helping her tremendously, though. All of those people (with all of those treats in their pockets) are not so scary anymore!
Grizz (shown in the photo with Dad -Jeff and Tasha) has also helped to build her confidence. Having a very outgoing
canine companion shows her that a lot of scary things are really okay.
Our third pack member, Penny, has her own problems. Her third owner in three years, I am not sure what she has been through in the past. She is very attention hungry...until you get too affectionate with her. Then she jumps up and runs away, looking like she thinks you are going to hurt her. I have not had her very long, and am still working on this behavior.
