Samurai House
was a University dorm-like residential for foreigners living in Mitaka.
99% of the people who lived at Samurai House were English teachers.
It was managed by Fontana, Co. Ltd - the real estate King of Inexpensive
and (most of the time) Not-So-Great living conditions. The actual house
was built by Shirai, Inc., a drafting company which has been in business
since 1959 (and if you look at the House, you'd think the architecture
is from the same era, heh heh).
The House had 26 rooms in all.....
...One of the
best things about living at Samurai House was meeting people from different
countries. During my stay, there were: 2 Canadians, 1 native Japanese,
2 British, 5 Americans (including myself), 5 Australians, 2 New Zealanders,
1 Kenyan, 1 Ghanan (the manager, Sam), and occasionally there were short-term
guests (backpackers, relatives, and friends). These numbers and nationalities
always changed from time to time.
