  • Jan. 27, 4A Kenai, non-conference game, there, Varsity girls, 1:30. We were really looking forward to this game being a close contest, but with Whitney sidelined and this being the first game the team has played without Whitney, the girls fought a hard battle and lost 48 to 27. 2A STATE TOURNAMENT AT SERVICE HIGH SCHOOL MARCH 29-31

Ninilchik's first game of the tournament was against Unalakleet Wolfpack on Thursday, 8 am. Wolverines won it 49-35. Bosick had a great game with a big 22 points, five steals and three blocked shots. Kourtney Hanson stepped it up and put in 12 points and Whitney contributed eight.

Their second game (semi final round) was against Northway. Ninilchik's outstanding defense held standout Candice Cronk to 20 points, and they won 52-38. Whitney had an outstanding game with 25 points.

The third and final championship game against Point Hope was a nailbiter for the first three quarters and then the Wolverines pulled ahead to win it 48-36. Three Wolverines were in double figures. Whitney once again had a great game with 20 points, followed by Molly Bosick with 16 and Janelle Moerlein with 10. Undefeated Point Hope pulled to an early lead but not for long. The game remained close, but the girls managed to stay ahead but in the fourth, Ninilchik's tough defense, mixing things up, switching from zone to man to a triangle and two was effective and Pt. Hope's desperation turned into fouls and a lot of free throws for the Wolverines. To see photos of the State Tourney action, go to the photo page.
