September 27 - October 12, 2003

I didn't have any plans to do any overseas travel in 2003. However, a number of factors changed my mind to return to Hong Kong (which I had only visited just the year before) and to include a stay in Singapore. The most important factor was that I was in serious need of a vacation from work. Another factor was I didn't want to go the route of joining a tour group...I wanted a relatively relaxing vacation without any set schedule or itinerary. I had friends and family in both Singapore and Hong Kong, which were also important in my decision. Another minor factor was that, due to the S.A.R.S. (severe acute respiratory syndrome) outbreak in both regions several months earlier, there were many promotions in all of Asia to attract visitors again to help the badly hit tourism industry.

As this was not the usual type of touring trip I had taken in the past, this travelogue will be more of a photo gallery rather than a day by day summary as on my past trips.
