Attention girls! Have you ever heard of a group called Job's (pronounced
JOBE's) Daughters? Have you ever wondered who we are and what we do? Technically,
the International Order of Job's Daughters is a girls' organization that
teaches public speaking, business, organizational and leadership skills
and helps girls become young women. Sometimes they say we start out as
rose buds and finish in full and spectacular bloom!
What "Jobies" (JOE-BEES) really is, is a ton of fun. We have sleep overs
and wake overs, go bowling, tobogganing, swimming, roller skating and on
Hay Rides together, serve at dinners and teas, do charity projects
we have our own "Official Charity", The Hearing Impaired
Kids Equipment Fund,
whose motto is "Kids Helping Kids" and use the "I Love you" sign
to represent them, hold
baseball tournaments and annual competitions. We also have some really
rockin' partieswhere we dance, have lip synching and
talent contests and tons of fun! We participate in State/Provincial Conventions,
an International Convention (JDI is organized in 5 countries: Canada, USA,
Australia, Philippines and Brazil) which is in British Columbia, Canada!!! YAY!!!
in 2006, Jobie Camp in Minnesota, parades, arts & crafts and other competitions, carolling, delivering
hampers and a seasonal gift exchange. If you're between the ages of ten (10) and twenty
(20) years you can become a member, if you're younger (9 & under) but still
think this might be a really cool group to join you can become a sort of
junior member called a Jobie-to-Bee
and the only thing you can't do is attend meetings. Meetings are where
we decide how to make money
and where to spend it. It's just the like the business meetings that your
parents go to with one twist: the kids are in charge! We hold elections every
six months for a new Honoured Queen , our president, and her Line Officers.
Even the Adult advisory council is elected by the Daughters! All you have to do
to join is fill out an application giving your name, age, birthday, address,
phone number, school and parents names. Parental involvement, while not compulsary,
is strongly encouraged so that parents can be involved in
encouraging their daughter and the Bethel in their activities. All Job's
Daughter activities require a 1 adult to 5 Daughter ratio. Right, but how much
is this going to cost me?
These's a nominal fee to join ($5 at #5, 2000) and dues ($15 at #5, 2000) each year, but I won't lie,
each meeting there is a coin march and we do fundraisers where prizes
are donated by the membership. Also we do gift exchanges and all "extra" activities,
like Provincial Convention, are partially at the participants cost. If this sounds at
all interesting to you, please check it out. It's easy, just e-mail me,
Shannon,
and say it's about Jobies. If any boys have been reading this and are jealous
that it's just for girls,
guess what! Ask about DeMolay or visit their International Site! Hope to hear from you soon.
