Birla Mandir
|
The Birla Mandir, Which overlooks
the tank bund, is spectacular in the evenings, when the lights go
on. the Mandir was built from special marble that was imported from
Rajastan and stands on the crest of Kala Pahad, the twin hillocks
of Naubat Pahad. The wealthy Birla foundation took 10 years to build
this magnificent edifice, the temple part is a dedication to Lord
venkateshware.

BM BIRLA PLANETATIUM & SCIENCE
MUSEUM |
One of the country's most modern planetariums
lies in the centre of the city, to the delight of the many school
children. The planetarium is designed to provide easy access to those
interested in astronomy. there are 'sky shows' held every day at different
times and in different languages. the planetarium is closed on the
last Thursday of the month. The Science Museum is closed on the last
Tuesday of the month.

CHARMINAR |
Perhaps most famous of all Hyderabad's
symbols is the Charminar, built by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah. Right
on top of the Charminar is a mosque. And all around there is the hustle
and bustle of commerce that is uniquely Hyderabad. Pearl and jewellery
shops , perfume and attar dealers. Want a Sovenier? This the place. |

GOLCONDA FORT |
Founded originally by the Kakatiyas
in the 13th century, the fort was imporved upon by the Qutab Shahi
kings. It is today a massive granite fort with walls and ramparts
some 7 Kms in circumference. The city within the walls, world-renowned
for the diamond trade, spawned such immortal gems as the The Koh-i-Noor,
the Hope and Orloff diamond of Catherine the kind. Clap your hands
at the entrance, and the sound of your applause can be heard all the
way at Bala Hissar, almost a kilometre away. In the evenings the Sound
& Light Show at Golconda Fort features a son et lumiere show.

ROCK FORMATIONS |
It would seem that when Hyderabad
was created, God decided to give it sights and attractions even before
man came along. There are magnificent rock formations all around.
these natural sights have been dated to 2,500 million years ago. certain
formation are protected by government such as the durgam Cheruvu behind
Jubilee HIlls, a lake surrounded by sheer rocks. The Society save
Rocks organises monthly rock walks every 3rd Sunday of the month

SALARJUNG MESEUM |
The Nawab Salar Jung III was a collector
of objects from all over the world. This museum houses European and
Indian paintings and statuary. Don't miss this Jade room with priceless
objects, from the times of Aurangazeb. Tipu Sultan, Shah Jahan and
Asaf Jahs of Hyderabad. |
