Country Music Heritage Association (Qld) Inc.

Grandchester, Queensland
In the early 1990's a move was made to start up a club in the West Moreton region of the Ipswich District to preserve and promote the old style hillbilly, country music and the Australian Bush Ballad.

Grandchester was thought to be a suitable spot to form a country music club, between Ipswich, Rosewood and Gatton, Toowoomba all being a comfortable drive away from the club.

On Sunday 26th May 1991 the Country Music Heritage Association was formed, with Socials to be held at 1pm on the 4th Sunday of every month in the Community Hall, School Rd, Grandchester with the exception of the December Social/Christmas Lunch which is held in the Show Hall, Rosewood Showgrounds at 11am which is generally held on the 3rd Sunday. From a handful of members at the first social, the membership has grown to around 170.

In 1995 the club decided to venture into uncharted territory with a plan to run a social on the Monday public holidays in Queensland for Labour Day in May and the Queens Birthday in June. These days include a sausage sizzle, starting at 11.30am with entertainment to follow at 12.30pm. In 2003 8 years later these days have proved a success.
At the monthly social member's present two songs in the old pick and strum style. There are no drums or drum machines. The only other backing instruments are a bass, harmonica and various types of piano/button accordions. You hear the songs of Slim Dusty, Shirley Thoms, Wilf Carter, Buddy and Tex as well as self penned songs from our talented members. After our famous afternoon tea artists generally get to perform a third song. A special guest artist performs at the March and August socials with a sausage sizzle commencing at 11.30am.

In 1992 it was decided to hold a one-day festival (Talent Quest) allowing members from various music clubs throughout Australia to participate. This is to encourage artists to present and preserve the old style of country music. Winners can take home a fine trophy. The festival is held annually on the second Sunday in September.

To raise funds the club conducts raffles, offering four meat trays per social with the lucky door ticket holder going home with a fruit box.
