Those
who do much overseas traveling know that all of us should be thankful for
the privilege we have of living in the U.S.A.
Yet, as we near
the November elections with all the posturing of parties and candidates,
we nearly despair over the weakness of human governments.
C. S. Lewis, in
one of his science-fiction books, illustrates the frailty of human governments--
A scientist
from earth lands on another planet and makes friends with its inhabitants.
The earthling tells them the history of his planet. As he gives the
story, he notices with embarrassment that he is telling of war after war.
One of the creatures to whom he is recounting the story concludes that
the constant fighting on earth must be because earthlings have no God.
Another creature offers a more logical explanation. Earthlings behave
like that, he concludes, because each of them wants to be a little god.
As usual, Lewis hit the nail right on the head. (8)
If we are not centered
in God, self will always be on the throne.
Isaiah tells of
a day when "the government will be upon His shoulder..." and "of
the increase of His government...there will be no end" (Isa. 9:6,7).
What a day that
will be!
How do we know
all this?
Well, quite
frankly, I read the back of the Book...and that's how it all ends.
Check it out.
