Club Details

East Point Aeromodellers Club Inc. is located in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.  The history of the club goes back to 1965 to when it was known as Northern Territory Model Flying Association. Early flying locations were the Darwin High School oval, Darwin Oval and three or four sites at East Point before finally settling to its present site on the old golf course at East Point Reserve. The club changed its name to East Point Aeromodellers Club (EPAC) around 1984 and subsequently became incorporated. About the same time as the name change the club became affiliated with the National controlling body for aeromodelling in Australia, the Model Aeronautical Association of Australia (MAAA).

Club activities cover most aspects of aeromodelling with members participating in the following sections of the sport, Pylon racing, Scale, Aerobatics, Electric gliders, Slope soaring ( at Nightcliff beach and Casuarina cliffs when conditions are suitable ), Helicopters, Control line and Ducted Fans. Competition events are held during the year and the N.T. Championships are held each year alternately at Alice Springs and Darwin.

In 1997 the Northern Territory hosted the 50th. National Titles and a number of events were held at EPAC.

The Club boasts two bitumen sealed runways, the main runway is 170 meters by 10 meters with a cross runway measuring 70 meters by 6 meters. There are sealed taxi ways from the pit area to the runway. Members enjoy covered concrete pit areas and spectators are catered for with a covered viewing area. There are full toilet and shower facilities including disabled persons toilet , a covered BBQ area. Power was connected to the pit area in November 2003.  This enables main powered charging and lighting for night activities.

The Club assets include a 2 meter cut ride on lawnmower, pylon cages and lights and speed timing set up.

Visitors and members of interstate and overseas clubs are most welcome to visit our field.  If visitors wish to visit the field during the week contact  Graham Taylor or  Steve Raskin.  Directions are in our Field Location page.
