THE RUST FILE

When I was a kid one of my neighbors owned a Datsun Dealership.

One day he came home driving a  240-Z, I was hooked !!!!!

The first 240 I owned , I bought in 1980 for a song, the car had recently lost an uninsured argument with a fire hydrant and the owner couldn't afford to fix it.

My plan was to fix it up just enough to sell  for more $$$ but the more I worked on it the more I realized it could be just as nice as any other 240 I had looked at. So...there it is, one thing led to another and I spent way more time and  money than any sane person might of spent but I had a lot of  fun and it kept me out of the Bars...mostly.

Originally I painted the car red with a white stripe that started on the hood blister and ran straight back over the car. To this day I have never seen another Z with the same paint. I added a few goodies as well, triple Webber 40's, headers , a better cam, harder shocks, stiffer springs etc. The car looked good, made lots of noise and went like stink ! The cops apparently liked it a great deal as well. When I eventually lost my license ( sometime around 1986 ) the car came off the road and I completely rebuilt it.

A friend of mine was farting around with a TVR at the time. Remember ? the plastic bubble top TR-6 that only the frame rusts out on? Well anyways it was painted a very obnoxious color of yellow and there lay my inspiration. The whole car was stripped and all the rotten metal replaced. I built a roll-cage into it and replaced the roof,  installed new fenders and added an air inlet to the hood. A year and a half later and very yellow the car was back on the road. That was sixteen years ago.

I have bought, sold and parted out numerous 240 s over the years but could never bring myself to sell the first one I owned.

Over the course of twenty years a lot of things have happened to the car and myself. It's been rolled, it's been hit, I even climbed a tree with it once ! The car is still solid ( no rust ) but not so straight, a little sad looking and generally beat up.

Bottom line......Time for a new 240-Z

Here are some more pictures I have found

I find pictures in the strangest places, my tool box, in parts boxes and piles of junk. As I come across them I will try to include them as space permits.
