COMMUNITY WORK

As a biblical based church Grace Community Church is continuously involved in community work by ministering to both the physical and spiritual needs of people.

Grace Community Church is based on the principle of addressing the needs of the community. Starting with the people in the church and then expanding to reach the residents of Thornton, after that come the people further afield.

The work done GCC is biblical, in Acts we learn of how the early Christians helped each other, preferably with help and donations other than money.

Soup kitchen: Soup is served on a weekly basis to pensioners at one of the homes for the elderly where mo20st of the people only receive a state pension. Sometimes the ladies who serve the soup will also pray for some of the residents when their needs are made known. At Christmas time a small party is held for them, gifts distributed, Chistmas carols sung and a short message is given from the Bible.

Soup kitchen 2: The next project is to serve soup at one of the apartment blocks which house many unemployed people. Also to extent the Dorcas ministry to serve the needs of the community at large.

Dorcas box: Food parcels are made up for needy families in the church & a fund for special needs e.g. Doctors, spectacles, and other emergencies.

Entertainment is held for the community by arranging  demonstrations or guest artists & speakers for the public and tea and cake is served. Also for special days e.g. Women's Day a special High Tea is held. Included is always a testimony of lives changed by the grace of God.

A mid-week morning Bible Study  is held for ladies in an endevour to reach more people with the Gospel message. This is linked to the special Teas.

Family Fun Weekend: For 2 years a weekend was set aside to bring the people in the community together. Friday evening was a big youth bash, with bands, dancers, food, etc. Saturday a craft market was held which included food stalls and lots of entertainment for children and adults. The evening a barndance was held. The climax was on Sunday morning when other churches were invited to a joint church service and all the ministers were invited to participate in the service. This has created a bond of friendship between the various denominations.
