Technical Information
Here
are some technical steps towards
conducting the experiment
1. Find
your geographical coordinates (_N,_W) and your
exact local time for noon. This information can be
found accurately at your nearest airport. Or you can
use a GPS device for the coordinates.
2. Find a flat surface using a water level. If possible get a
meter stick and fit it to a base so that it is at a
90° angle from the surface. Remember that the 0° mark needs
to be in contact with the floor. Then start measuring for
the length of the shadow 20 minutes before the local
noon. The shadow will become shorter as the noon
approaches, and then longer as the sun passes the
highest point. Note: It is extremely important that
you do not miss the length of the shortest shadow.
3. Please make all your measurements to the nearest
millimeter. Finally please pay close attention to the picture
attached because they are drawings we have made that will give a good
idea of the different things we are trying to share
with you.
