It
takes time, trust and effort for your you and your dog to understand each other.
Whether
it be house training, or party tricks, even aggression reduction;
Canines in Training is able to help you find a better way of living with 'man's
best friend'.

Instead of increasing the fear and resentment that dog's often feel, we train
using positive reinforcement, behavior
replacement and gentle control. By using these methods instead of
'jerk and choke' or intimidation techniques, not only is your dog happier and
more secure but your whole family is happier with this 'furry stranger' in your
home.
Did
you know?:
- Trainers
in 'jerk and choke'/intimidation techniques are constantly having to be 'faster'
than the dog, because they are constantly bitten (like a mongoose and a cobra).
Click-n-Treat/Positive Reinforcement trainers have little to no fear of being
bitten.
- Much
like you, some 'jerk' trained dogs feel the way you do under a bad boss: "I'll
do what you ask out of fear of punishment, but when I go home at the end of
the day, I hate you and given the chance would hurt you."
- It isn't
aggression that makes a puppy continue to bite you, it's ignorance.
Until you let it be known that it hurts for the puppy to bite (don't yank
the limb back quickly: that's a play tactic, but yip loudly and strongly),
you will only encourage more biting or fear biting (when cornered and
scared the dog tries to avoid an 'attack', but doesn't know how to nip rather
than bite.)
- You
can get a dog to do just about anything without ever physically touching or
forcing him to do anything.(CIT has trained a Rottweiller to ride a skateboard
without punishing, touching or using coercive techniques like shock collars
or ultrasonics that cause pain.)
- Dogs
are not wolves. Wolves are still totally wild, whereas dogs have been companions
to Man for more than 10,000 years. Think that 10,000 years makes no difference?
Check again.
- Dogs
are dogs. Do not allow them to rule the house, but they DO NOT NEED TO
BE BEATEN to be a good part of your family. In fact, they will act more
like a sullen teenager than a good slave in most cases: Willing to take a
big risk in bad circumstances, like biting you when you go to strike them.
- 90+%
of the adult dogs brought to the pound/a.s.p.c.a. for relocation or destruction
had problems that could have been avoided had the dog been trained differently
or at all. Almost (99.99%) of all 'bad behaviors' are the results of no or
bad training. There are no Bad Dogs, Just Bad Trainers.
- Dogs
are often hurt, permanently damaged, or even killed by overly agressive trainers,
who 'helicopter', shake, or slam dogs regularly.
- How
would you work better? A) Your boss helps you understand your job, praises
you when you do right, warns you when you are doing wrong and generally helps
you to be the best employee, OR B) They hire you, don't tell you what
your job is, hide a camera in your office, and the then come into the office
every so often to slam a book on your head because you weren't doing the job
right, but they never told you what was right? I like option #1 and so
will your dog.
- Of the
dogs that go to the 'pound', a good portion (25 to 50%) are going not because
they are 'bad', but because the owner picked the wrong breed i.e.: a single
woman picks a Rottweiler for protection, but never gets around to training
it, and then she babies it at home. When she stops, she may be in for a major
rude awakening: her sweet little puppy acts like a raving lunatic. (He's not,
he's just trying to get things back to the way they were, her spoiling him.)
Had she picked a Labrador, or a poodle, the response may have been the same,
but the extent of the damage may have been far less.
- If a
'jerk'/'choke' trainer says 'it doesn't hurt the dog' or 'this is the only
way', walk away. These are people who never cared to learn anything
more than they already knew; you are endangering your dog's life and yours
also. We ask you, would you take a 30 pound child and slam them to the floor?
DHS/Children's Welfare would have you in jail!! SO why do they advocate doing
something to dogs that we call hideous when done to a human?
- Find
a trainer who cares for dogs. We're not talking 'takes care of them'. Watch
them with other peoples' dogs. Are they gentle? Steady? Slow? These are all
good signs. If they move fast, yank the dog around, or even ignore it, we
wouldn't want them training us!
