Cibodas
Information Centre
Before
you start hiking you should visit the National Park information centre. There
you can find any information, maps and useful tips to make the most of your
visit. The centre also puts on exhibitions about the wildlife and geography,
shows slide programmes in the lecture theatre. Souvenirs and information
brochures about the area can be purchased in the shop. Educational visits and
enquires welcome.
The
Mount Summits
Hiking
the 10 kms (approx. 4 hrs) along the high path to the mountain summit is an
especially challenging experience, as a variety of flora and fauna and many
panoramic views can be seen. In order to see the sunrise from the mountain
summit, most people choose to climb the path at night (begin at approx. 10.00
pm) and descend at noon the next day.
Visiting
Waterfalls
There
are two famous waterfalls located at Cibodas and Selabintana, the biggest
of which is 75 m high. The water runs for the whole year and visitors can
experience the feel of the water spray and take photographs from behind these
spectacular features.
Conservating
Camps
Living
in nature provides the visitor with a revitalizing, calming and peaceful
experience. The National park has two large camps sites at Selabintana and
Gunung Puteri. Both can be reached by road, followed by a 30-minute walk (1-2
km). Public transport to and accommodation at the camps sites is available.
Bird
Watching
More
than half the birds species of Java can be found in the National Park. Species
range from small birds such as the swallow to large birds such as Eagle.
Circular trails allow visitors to bird watch and experience the peaceful nature
of the dense forest.
Conservation
Education
There
is a range of activities related to conservation education within the National
Park. These include a school visit programme, conservation camps, and a centre
for conservation education. The programmes are conducted by a team of more than
25 volunteers and an interpreter, who assists audiences in the field. The
programmes are promoted to students and visitors from a wide area.
Canopy
Walk Trail
Indonesia's
first canopy walk was opened in October 1997 near the conservation education
centre at Bodogol. The walk is a new attraction for visitors, researchers and
students.
