HOW TO (TUTORIALS, TIPS & TRICKS)

BLUESCREEN COMPOSITING WITH ADOBE PREMIER 5.0
by Joseph Baluya
Level=Basic ~ Intermediate

Compositing in Adobe Premier is as easy as 123 once you get the basic steps. I have here two images which we will use in the tutorial. These are just still images but you can also use other formats and movies.

IMPORTANT: The actor or object you want to appear on the foreground must not have anything colored blue on it or else it will appear transparent.

Let's start. Open premier. File/New/Project. Open your background plate (background.jpg). A new window will open with the jpg picture.

Simply drag the picture to your timeline track Video 1A. Now open your bluescreen image (bluescreen.jpg). Drag and place it over track Video 2. (see picture)

Now right click Video 2 (bluescreen.jpg) click Video/transparency… The Trasparency Settings window opens.

Click the box with none and chose Blue Screen key type from the drop down list.

Right there and there you can see the resulting fx on the sample window.

Adjust the Threshold and Cutoff that suits you ( I used 70 for Threshold and 25 for Cutoff). You can test and see the result by exporting a Frame (File/export/frames..). That's all! -Joseph
