Dear Madam/Sir,
I have a great interest in working in humanitarian programs in developing countries, with different cultures. I have what I would classify as a multicultural experience through my work in Brazil, USA and East Timor. I have gained valuable teaching and management skills by leading a classroom on a daily basis at so different countries. I believe that my community services with visually impaired people, as well as with disability children from needy communities in Rio de Janeiro and Amazônia, have provided me a special way to grow into a better human being. I also enhanced cultural awareness through observing socio-economically low and poor performing educational systems, working with groups of at-risk students outside of class.
Living in Brazil has prepared me for the experience of living in other nations. The mix of ethnicities and social and economic instability has created a volatile melting pot in Brazil. I have experienced first hand the dynamics of this, along with the general conditions of poverty through my work with people from underprivileged backgrounds. It is this experience that I will use to better understand the complexities of issues in the developing world. I think that all needs should be met everywhere, whether cultural, economical or social.
I have received several commendations for my dedication and professionalism, and have continually received recognition for my communication skills and leadership excellence. The enclosed résumé has a brief summary of my qualifications. Please feel free to contact me should you desire any further information. I would be happy to make myself available for a personal interview at your convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Telma Castro
