Some important information about the model E93A - Prefect

In 1938, Ford introduce the first car wich was designated by a model name. The Ford Prefect was replacing the 7W model, changing litle things like the front and it was avaliable only in 4 door version. This was soon followed by the 8 hp Anglia, a less well equipped 2 door model based on the same chassis and designated model E04A. The Anglia, in its basic configuration, was generally the lowest priced car in England at the time. Both these cars were regarded as quite reliable and very good performers for their class.
The model E93A was fitted with an 1172cc 10hp sidevalve engine and was built in England from 1938 until 1948. Although production was halted between 1940 and 1945 when Fordīs factory at Dagenham near London was given over to the war effort. Dagenham was built in 1931 and it was the most modern, best equipped automobile factory anywhere in the world, outside of Detroit.
Just after the second war Britain was virtually bankrupt, and British people couldn't afford to buy new cars because they were subject to a very high purchase tax. The E93A Prefect was one of the most commonly exported models. Some that went overseas had a front bench seat, but the standard fitting was two separate front seats.
