Here is my Food of the Month for August 2001

CHOCOLATE CREME OREO SANDWICH COOKIES

I found this new item on the shelves early August, 2001. Package was stunning and grabbed my attention, in which... I purchaced the 1 pound package.
Upon reaching my abode, the easy-to-open package allowed my 5 digit appendage to easily remove the cylindrical treat. Very pleasing aroma and a taste that was quite palatable. There was no problem producing the necessary saliva to assist with enzymatic breakdown.
After 3-5 cookies, I moved to the milk-dunk test. Using fat free milk at 35°F, the test went quite well, and even more tasty. The dunk results were exactly the same as the original Oreo cookies. Although, the cookie never did completely sink.. it remained visible at the surface, but after 2 minutes the wafer began to break down and turn to mush. The sediment would sink to the bottom of the glass.
There are no vitamins provided by these cookies, but rather an abundance of fat, carbs, sugars, sodium and a bit of protien. But, if you use milk in conjunction with the cookies, you can get some necessary vitamins and minerals. It would be quite easy to surpass the daily calorie intake of a persons diet being that the serving size is 2 cookies ( 150 calories ).
Packaging was adequate. Out of 20 one pound packages randomly dropped at the store, an average of 4 cookies per package had structural damage. Stacking of the packages seemed to be appropriate at the store, but one must keep in mind that a force in excess of 1-2 foot pounds could cause structural damage to the cookies.

Setbacks: The packaging could be improved with a re-sealing outer wrap. Once this package is opened, there is no adequate way to keep the moisture out. Supplemental packaging is necessary ( eg. Zip-lock bags ).

The red swirl Oreo cookies are a fun way to enjoy your milk, but offer no other taste thrills than the standard Oreo.
