St Francis was Formed in 1958 and it's players where drawn on mainly from the liberties in Dublins Inner city where they competed in thedublin and districts schoolboy league. In 1968 St. Francis joined the ranks of junior football by joining the A.U.L. Pete mahon, A former player, took charge in 1982 and St Francis enjoyed the most successful period in their history. The following years saw the largest developement and growth within the club, within six years St. Francis moved up to the Leinster League and Officially opened the doors to it's new ground in Baldonnel. In the early 1990's The Saints made their mark on the football scene in Ireland and When they beat Bohemians in the F.A.I. cup they also qualified for the Final of the competition where they played Bray Wanderers in front of 30,000 spectators at lansdowne road. In 1996/1997 St. Francis were elected to the F.A.I. National League Of Ireland and although they have not ignited fireworks people are still waiting for the spark to make them a force in the N.L.O.I. |
