Bohemians Football Club was founded in 1890 by Footballers from Bells Academy, students from

dublins hospitals and Masters from Hibernian Miliatary school. They met in the Phoenix park and held a

vote as to the name of their Football Club, two names were picked and voted on , Bohemians and Rovers

(irony!), with a tie resulting the decision lay in the hands of the club chairperson, Duddley Hussey, and

Bohemians Football Club was born.

Bohs first home ground was the Polo Grounds in the Phoenix Park and the away teams were entertained

by sing-songs from the home team. In the 1983/84 season Bohs purchased grounds on jones's road which now
is the home of the GAA headquarters, Croke Park. Bohs remained there for three years until they moved to

Whitehall in Glasnevin in 1895. Because at this time there was no infrastructure and Glasnevin was out of the
way bohs continued to look for a new home and on 7th December 1901 Dalymount Park Became the home of
Bohemians F.C., the ground was later to host the likes of Celtic, Preston North End and many Irish

Internationals for over sixty years.

On the pitch bohs were competing in the all ireland league which consisted of eight teams, six from the
north and two from the south, Shelbourne and Bohs. Prior to 1921 Bohs only Claim to fame came as a result
of winning the IFA cup in 1908, before this they had competed in the final on no less than three occassions

losing to Linfield, Distilleries and Glentoran, 10-1, 2-1 and 3-1 respectively. when they did finally win it, they

Beat Shels 3-1 in an all southern final, the first ever and although bohs reached the final again the following
yeay they lost to glentoran and lost again two years later to Shelbourne.

After 1921 the F.A.I. was established and the league of Ireland (Free State League)  put in place,

although Bohs were one of the top established clubs a load of silverwear was not heading their direction

between 1921 and today with only seven league titles (the last in 1978), they did however finish runners-up in

the league twelve times in that time, the most successful being between 1974 and 1978. The club however is

looking good in recent yeays under the guidance of Roddy Collins who has built a squad of talented players

and along with a more professional approach they have recently been runners up in the cup, along with

seeing an upturn in their league performances. Proof of their performances are when they have beaten the

likes of Aberdeen and German giants Kaiserslauten, signs that the gypsies 22-year wait for silverwear could be

about to end if they can become a little more consistant.
