RSI is caused by a combination of overuse and repetition, awkward or static posture and insufficient recovery time.

There are a number of factors in the workplace that can increase the risk of RSI

  • Badly designed equipment or workstation
  • Lack of breaks
  • Excessive production demands
  • Awkward posture or grip
  • Using force and/or vibrating tools
  • Lack of training
  • Lack of control/involvement

Risk factors are exacerbated when working in the cold or under stressful conditions.
